What is an Assistant Teacher?

A Teacher's Assistant are often new to the teaching industry and work side by side with regular teachers to gain the experience they need to progress to the next level. Teachers Assistants are tasked with helping teachers develop and implement customized lesson plans for the current years students. Teaches Assistants will handle the overflow of low level work such as grading tests, quizzes and papers. This allows the head teacher to focus on providing the best education to their students.

Teachers Assistants will recently, or will shortly, have obtained their accreditation in an educational field. Many colleges offer degrees in education and child development. These degrees require 4 years + of study. The job can be busy at certain times of the year. Having an organized and productive personality will benefit both the teachers and the students. Depending on age group different communication skill levels might be needed.

Responsibilities for Assistant Teacher

  • Meet with teachers to understand lesson plans and agendas
  • Adhere to all lesson plans while interacting with students
  • Interact with students in a way that successfully conveys educational material
  • Maintain an orderly classroom and handle all disturbances in accordance with guidelines
  • Document and report all incidents to senior staff immediately
  • Identify student who may require more help.

Qualifications for Assistant Teacher

  • 2 years experience in a teaching role
  • Valid State Teaching Certificate
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Robust interpersonal skills
  • Strong organizational and prioritizing skills
  • Ability to stand for long hours
  • Willingness to submit to a background check
  • A drive to be motivational
