What is a Business Systems Analyst?

A Business Systems Analyst are employed by various companies and institutions to help with the technological integration of business software and IT. These systems are utilized to better run an institution or business by improving analytics, transport logistics, staff management and a host of other processes. Typically and Business Systems Analyst will work for a tech company that is contracted out by various other companies.

A Business System Analyst education is very similar to a Computer Systems Analyst. A degree in Computer Science, Internet Technologies, or related field is required. While coding and scripting is still part of the job, it is not as intensive as other IT positions. Occasionally BSAs have to test and debug new software inside a clients server. A strong understanding of the different types of framework structures is necessary to be effective in this position.

Responsibilities for Business Systems Analyst

  • Interview all new clients technologies department heads to gain an understanding of current systems and structures
  • Identify inefficiencies and other bugs to be flushed out
  • Work with internal development team and the clients technologies team to design effective programming and software changes
  • Beta test all new software in isolated systems simulations
  • Integrate new software and hardware changes seamlessly to clients network
  • Observe and Identify all current and potential failures
  • Maintain a bug free user experience at all times
  • Accurately log all technology developments in company records to be utilized in future client projects

Qualifications for Business Systems Analyst

  • Advanced Degree (preferred)
  • 5+ years in an IT management position
  • Previous experience in systems integration
  • Proficiency in modern script and coding languages
  • Capable of prioritizing multiple projects and still meet deadlines
  • Willingness to temporarily relocate a couple months at a time
  • Ability to life 35+ lb server racks on occasion
  • Excellent organizational and communication skills
  • Strong team building and leadership skills
