What is an ESL TESOL Teacher?

An ESL/TESOL teacher is responsible for helping students learn English no matter what age they are. They are responsible for developing and delivering lesson plans that will encourage students to learn. A few of the main duties of an ESL/TESOL teacher are following school guidelines, tracking student progress, ensuring students follow classroom rules, and maintaining progress reports. They also have to speak with parents to update them on how their children are performing. Some of the jobs titles that an ESL/TESOL teacher could grow into are principal and vice principal.

An ESL/TESOL teacher should have two years of experience working with ELLs as well as a Bachelor's degree in teaching and preferably a Master's. One of the most important skills that an ESL/TESOL teacher will have is the ability to create joy in learning. Another skill is communication as the ESL/TESOL teacher will need to be able to communicate with the student and parents.
