The SKF Automotive Market (AM) has global responsibility for business development, product and process development, manufacturing and sales on wheel end, powertrain, suspension and steering applications, providing original equipment parts for the passenger car and light truck vehicle industry. The selected candidate will initially work on the Powertrain applications area but depending on experience, some other automotive applications will be assigned.
Independently manage and grow relationship with OEM and tier customer engineering/technical teams acting as front-line bearing expert. Candidate must be comfortable acting as resident engineer if required.
Employ problem solving strategies to correct technical errors with rapid response.
Independently manage and document engineering activities from the start of business opportunity until end of production, including specification phase, prototype phase, industrialization phase, series production phase and warranty phase.
Actively identify and pursue new bearing business opportunities by understanding customer concerns and evolving needs.
Translate those customer needs into specific technical requirements so that SKF research and product development can act upon them.
Create and deliver technical presentations and/or training events to large customer groups
Prepare and execute design verification and process validation test plans using global testing resources
Promote and emphasize first-time quality by offering critical assessment of product or processes and employ continuous improvement activities such as lessons learned, read across, DfSS, etc
Job Requirements :
A bachelor's degree in engineering (mechanical is preferred)
3+ years work experience in the automotive industry, specifically in bearing applications like Automotive transmission, Driveline, Wheel end. Candidates should have worked in any of the following roles: Application engineering, Design release engineer, Business engineer or Technical sales.
Candidate must demonstrate sound general knowledge in the design, selection and performance of most rolling contact bearings.
Familiar with principles of rolling contact fatigue, bearing kinematics, and bearing failure analysis.
The application engineer should have general knowledge of bearing lubricants, oils and greases.
Excellent interpersonal, problem solving and decision making skills
Dependable, reliable and self-motivated.
Candidate should demonstrate ability to score businesses.
The following knowledge and experience are not mandatory but will give the eligible candidate a distinct advantage:
Bearing design knowledge to minimize bearing friction.
Bearing performance in component level testing and system level testing
General understanding of high speed rotating machinery (electric motors).
Technical sales to OEM and Tiers. Large personal networkwith those customers.
First hand work experience with bearing manufacturing processes.
The successful candidate would display a high amount of initiative. It is expected local travel up to 40% of the time with some international travel required.
