Coordinates the Driving Toward Apprenticeship Success grant at Prairie State College Provides. Provides guidance to grant participants throughout the advising, career development and job search process. Supports the Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act (WIOA) through the public workforce system and its delivery of services to current and prospective students, alumni, and employers being served under the grant program.

Direct reporting relationship to the Manager of Transportation, Warehouse and Logistics and grant management from the Dean of Corporate and Continuing Education.
  • Implements a registered apprenticeship program through the Department of Labor for PSC’s Truck Driving Academy.
  • Coordinates all functions in relation to the CDL apprenticeship program ensuring all Department of Labor (DOL) and the Illinois Department of Commerce and Economic Opportunity requirements are met.
  • Prepares and submits proper student, employer and college documentation to the DOL as required.
  • Coordinates all reporting requirements for the grant with the PSC grant accountant and grant project manager.
  • Advises students throughout the career development process. Assist with resume, interview and career readiness skills.
  • Collaborates with key stakeholders to execute and deliver an apprenticeship program.
  • Provides academic and career advisement, education planning, registration, and case management for students who are participating or have participated in the Driving Toward Apprenticeship Success program.
  • Works with members of the Student Career Development Center to advance department-wide projects and assists with related tasks to the grant such as job fairs, seminars and other career events.
  • Designs and implements career development related workshops and classroom presentations for the college workforce, industry, and community.
  • Administers and coaches grant students to effectively utilize the DOL apprenticeship program, career interest systems and other resources that aid in the career development process.
  • Informs and advises students, staff, businesses, community members and partners regarding the grant goals and objectives. Recommends program policies and coursework to meet student and community needs.
  • Monitors and tracks successful grant measures and outcomes.
  • Develops a working knowledge of the grant and college policies, procedures, academic programs, and services.
  • Creates student academic and career plans for successful participant completion.
  • Represents the college on-and off-campus at college/career programs, business, and community-related events.
  • Attends conferences, workshops, seminars, and meetings to enhance apprenticeship standards pertinent to this positions responsibility in support of the grant.
  • Initiates and manages the Driving Toward Apprenticeship Success program. Program supports students ages 21 and older who are enrolled in a transportation, warehousing or logistics program.
  • Assists the Outreach and Retention Specialist and grant team with participant and program success.
  • Assesses and provides solutions and referrals to participants’ barriers.
  • Provides intake, eligibility and case management as outlined by the grant administration.
  • Flexible scheduling required, including some evening and weekend hours.
  • Performs other duties as assigned that align with the scope of the grant initiative.
This position will frequently travel between college locations and employer sites on a daily basis. The employee typically works indoors in an environment protected from the weather. With some frequency, travel is required to meet with employers, current and prospective students at a site other than Prairie State College. Physical activities include the ability to carry appropriate recruitment materials sometimes weighing up to 40 pounds.
  • Bachelor’s degree or Associate’s degree and five years of related experience.
  • Experience in career advising or related area of higher education.
  • Experience working with students with diverse backgrounds.
  • Ability to provide for personal travel.
  • Demonstrated excellent oral, written, and interpersonal skills with solid proficiency with computer software.
  • Evidence of commitment and ability to work in teams with ability to maintain confidentiality.
  • Knowledge of registered apprenticeship programs.
  • Career advising experience in a community college setting.
  • Experience with Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act (WIOA) programs.
Monday – Friday 8:00am – 4:30pm; evening and weekend hours may apply.

      This school has really grown and developed over the years. The CEO has a great amount of passion and really works hard to bring the best elements into the school for students and instructors. Everyone tries to help each other improve. Nice family of employees.


      More people don't take advantage of the programs available and education at their fingertips.
