The Associate Consultant Development Program at Charles River Development (CRD) is focused on hiring, training and retaining new Associate Consultants for the following purposes:
to introduce them to the different aspects of providing client services in a complex technical and dynamic business environment;
to enhance their technical and business skills through hands-on experience and mentorship by experienced CRD client and product management staff;
to expose them to the many opportunities and challenges of providing global client services;
to prepare them for a full time role as an Implementation Consultant (IC) or Technical Implementation Consultant (TIC) after one year of rotation;
to develop future CRD key performers and leaders.
This program and its components are subject to change at CRD’s and at management’s discretion.
Assignments and Duration:
The expected duration of this Program is approximately twelve (12) months, generally working within the following teams for the estimated durations noted below.
Technical Support (first six months) Product Management (six months)
Associates will complete product, technical and company training (Charles River University) upon, or shortly after, starting employment at CRD. The training dates may vary depending on schedules and capacity. Duration of the training program is approximately six weeks, and includes the first phase of Charles River product certifications. It is expected that all Associates will continue to learn the product, industry domain and consulting skills during their rotation.
Associates are assigned to a direct manager (Manager) who will provide ongoing oversight for team and job assignments, performance evaluations, career development and direction, and all administrative matters.
Feedback and Evaluation:
Managers and rotational leads provide ongoing performance feedback to Associates during the following intervals, together with identifying key areas of strengths and skills development:
through ongoing monthly meetings; at the end of each group rotation; during CRD’s semi-annual formal evaluation process; and at the end of the Program.
Future Team Assignment at CRD:
Associates will end up in a full time position as an IC or TIC after one year of rotation. In some cases, Management may also consider Associates for positions outside of Consulting, depending on skill set, interests, business needs and other factors.
Client Management Associate Position Description:
The following is a general overview of the Associate position and related responsibilities. These are not exhaustive lists and are subject to modification on a case by case basis and depend on business needs.
Associates at CRD are responsible for fulfilling the job responsibilities for the assigned rotation. Through product knowledge, self-initiative, excellent time management, and prioritization, Associates are expected to receive and follow through to completion on multiple simultaneous client support or project initiatives. They will collaborate closely with internal teams as needed to address client needs. As business needs demand, Associates will meet with clients directly, traveling as appropriate. They are also responsible for assisting their teams achieve expected group objectives by meeting/exceeding business goals and metrics such as Utilization, Client Satisfaction, Client Retention and others.
Client Management Associates will be assigned business and technical tasks in line with each rotational group’s business needs. This will enable Associates to gain in-depth experience in each area, while providing them exposure to the full cycle of client management field. The general responsibilities for each group may include all or some of the following:
Respond to requests for technical assistance via phone, email or in person (remotely or on-site).Engage as a team member by “shadowing” assigned staff on 1-2 implementation or upgrade projects.
Diagnose software issues and recommend the appropriate solution.Engage as a billable team member on 2-3 full-cycle functional or technical implementation projects by participating in client meetings on site; attending internal meetings, end-user prototyping and training; and assisting with other assigned tasks.
Analyze problems, answer questions and provide training related to the software.Under the Implementation Manager’ direct supervision, deliver quality, timely and effective results on requirements gathering, documentation, workflow analysis and design, configuration, test case development, unit testing and prototyping.
Identify and test workarounds for bugs or deficiencies in the software.Review and address functional and/or technical impacts of new and/or upgraded applications.
Research issues dealing with third party software.Assist with client training on assigned products, contributing to the development and maintenance of client training documents.
Follow a standard set of procedures and methods when responding to customer requests or inquiries.Provide to the Implementation Manager accurate project-status and progress-summaries on ongoing basis.
Conduct research on questions and issues using available information resources and other product specialists.Learn the fundamentals of fixed income and equity workflows
Keep a detailed log of all customer interactions and prepare resolution reports for issues reported by the customer.Develop in depth knowledge of the following modules in the application: Blotter, Manager Workbench, Compliance and Post Trade.
Utilize and administers the help desk software.Develop technical skills to conduct data mapping, upgrades and basic interface configuration.

Bachelor degree or higher from a leading college or university Field of Computer Science, Engineering, Analytical Finance, Economics, or other technical or analytical field of study (Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science is highly desirable for this program)
Interest, exposure, background and/or internship experience in financial/software services industry Interest, exposure, familiarity with and/or internship experience in a management consulting environment Project management, time management and prioritization skills and/or experience; Exposure to, and/or internship experience with, implementing technical systems Track record of solving complex problems Knowledge in any or some of the following technologies: Tomcat configuration and optimization, N-tier application architecture, SOAP/SML and messaging software, RDBMS (Oracle, MS SQL Server or Sybase), Java and C# programming, Windows and UNIX (Solaris and Linux), Knowledge of ETL tools, familiarity with at least one SCM (Subversion or Perforce a plus), Perl, ability to reach/write XSD and DTDs, Extract Transform and Load tools such as Informatica, Knowledge of Design Patterns.

Associates must be willing to travel on average 30-40% (could be heavier at times) to customer sites as a full time IC or TIC after completing the year-long rotation. The two phases of the rotation will be based at our world headquarters in Burlington, MA. Some projects may require Associates to work in the field during their final phase of the rotation.
