As part of a small, passionate, and accomplished advanced systems team, you will be responsible for the avionics architecture of various deep space systems with a particular emphasis on the Blue Moon Lunar Lander. This position will directly impact the history of space exploration, and your dedicated commitment and detailed attention will further the cause of safe and repeatable spaceflight.
Create and maintain block diagrams of the vehicles avionics system showing the functional and physical interfaces between components.
Work closely with Guidance, Navigation, and Control, RF Communications, and Electrical Power System experts to create an integrated avionics baseline.
Select and create avionics architectures appropriate for the mission: e.g. fault tolerance approach, centralized vs. distributed, subsystem interconnects, networking topologies, etc.
Define appropriate strategies for mitigation of mission-level space radiation effects
Define I/O bandwidth and track I/O utilization
Estimate the size, weight, and power consumption of avionics subsystems based on defined margin philosophy
Estimate and track compute, memory, and network peak/average utilization to ensure sufficient resources and margin are preserved
Evaluate and select appropriate compute elements based on the function being performed and overall avionics architecture needs: e.g. general purpose CPU, GPU, FPGA, ASIC, etc.
Create requirements for avionics subsystems that can be practically interpreted and implemented
Effectively communicate development status, risks, and challenges to management.
Work closely with systems and design engineers to develop integrated design solutions, rapidly assess conceptual designs.
Write cogent and succinct technical memos and devise innovative, intuitive, and delightful ways to visualize quantitative information.
Minimum of a B.S. degree in Electrical or Aerospace Engineering or equivalent
7+ years industry experience in avionic system design and analysis
Familiarity with state-of-the-art avionics solutions used in space environments
Experience working collaboratively in small teams on fast-paced projects
Exhibit excellent judgement and be comfortable making high-quality and high-velocity decisions
Must be a U.S. citizen or national, U.S. permanent resident (current Green Card holder), or lawfully admitted into the U.S. as a refugee or granted asylum.
M.S. in Electrical or Aerospace Engineering
Experience with space radiation effects tools and methods
Experience with electromagnetic interference and compatibility, especially in the space environment.
Familiarity with version control tools, preferably Git.
Experience with collaboration tools such as Confluence and JIRA
