Garten Rothkopf is seeking an experienced professional to lead its business development team. The Director – Business Development will be responsible for building out a new line of business in high-level custom education for corporations and governments, as well as for driving sales of advisory and research services. Candidates should demonstrate a proven track record in sales, experience in the custom education industry, an ability to work independently and on teams, as well as great business acumen and intellectual flexibility.


  • Research clients and markets to identify sales opportunities
  • Handle outreach to potential clients
  • Develop custom education and advisory offerings customized to the needs of individual government and corporate clients
  • Lead the development of sales and marketing materials, conducting original research as needed
  • Maintain and update the company website
  • Coach and mentor the business development team
  • Support analyst projects on an as-needed basis


  • 2-4 years prior work experience in high-level custom education in a sales-related position
  • Bachelor’s degree in international affairs, economics, or related field; advanced degree preferred
  • Proven track record in building a successful new line of business
  • Ability to meet tight deadlines
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Understanding of international affairs, including politics and economics; knowledge of energy issues and international trade a plus
  • Strong command of Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, and Excel
