Director of Catering
The Director of Catering is responsible for soliciting new and existing accounts to meet and exceed revenue goals. This role will use a variety of tools to solicit business including, but not limited to: site inspections, sales calls (inside/outside), networking, Internet leads, brand leads, referrals, direct mail and community involvement. This position is responsible for managing the Catering Sales Team and events from the initial booking through the successfully completion of the event.
The Director of Catering is responsible for the recruitment, training, coaching and counseling of the Catering Sales team (with the assistance of human resources). Candidates should have a general knowledge of local, state and federal employment law. This role will also be responsible for departmental performance management, payroll management and day-to-day associate relations for their team.
The Director of Catering is responsible for managing accounts and ensuring client satisfaction, working to exceed a clients needs and quickly resolve any issues or complaints. This includes corresponding with potential clients and providing any requested information concerning proposals, confirmation of bookings, thank you letters, follow-up letters and more. The Director of Catering must confer with clients and fellow team members in all phases of the event, meeting or conference to ensure complete client satisfaction.
A working knowledge of hotel operations is required. The Director of Catering is responsible for ensuring that appropriate communication for upcoming business is detailed and complete before then being distributed in a timely manner to the operations management team. This helps to ensure the successful execution of the event. The Director of Catering shall tour, inspect and monitor banquet rooms and overall presentation to ensure accuracy and maintain quality control. The Director of Catering will have to maneuver simultaneously between multiple events and communicate with multiple departments quickly and efficiently to ensure guest satisfaction.
Additionally, candidates for this role should have experience in the area of menu development and marketing as it relates to the catering department. Candidates will work closely with the Director of F&B and Executive Chefs to develop banquet menu pricing and revenue minimums using current competitive data. Successful candidates will have prior experience with event coordination, BEO origination and food/beverage concepts.
The Director of Catering will also be responsible for annual budgeting, forecasting and analysis of data. This role will prepare, implement and compile data for strategic sales plans, monthly reports, forecasts and other reports as required. Participation in daily business review meetings, sales meetings and management meetings will be required. The Director of Catering must be comfortable presenting to groups large and small to include clients, the local community, team members, management and ownership.
The Director of Catering should possess superior communication, negotiation and selling skills. The Director of Catering will be responsible for revenues in their particular market or segment, compensation structures are in part based on meeting revenue goals as set forth by the Director of Sales at the hotel and the corporate VP of Sales.

Minimum 3+ Years of Catering Experience in the Hospitality Industry (preferably at a Director level in a similar-sized property)
Superior Selling & Negotiation Skills - Proven ability to close deals
Must have the ability to work days, evenings and weekends as business dictates
Must hold a valid drivers license and have the ability to call on potential and current clients
Must be able to lift up to 15lbs. occasionally
Must be able to sit for up to 5 hours at a time, walking/standing required the remainder of the day
Hospitality is a 24/7 industry therefore, candidates should be willing to work weekends and holidays as needed.
