The campaign for Larry Sharpe for Governor of New York is seeking a Director of External Affairs in each of its 10 campaign regions throughout New York State.

For this position we are seeking outgoing, approachable, communicative, and amicable individuals to help us create and maintain relationships with supporters of Larry Sharpe’s campaign. Applicants should be expressive, have good social skills, and be prepared to communicate with team members and potential benefactors. Prior experience in political fundraising is especially desired and sought after. The office is virtual, the schedule is flexible, and compensation is commission-based.


  • Build and manage a portfolio of regional prospects capable of supporting Larry Sharpe’s campaign for governor with donations of $1,000+, helping them to align their goals with Larry Sharpe’s vision and priorities.
  • Serve as an ambassador for Larry Sharpe’s campaign to regional constituencies, representing and aligning his goals with theirs.
  • Work collaboratively with the candidate and other staff members to design strategies to secure funding to achieve campaign goals.
  • Oversee donor stewardship and recognition efforts for select prospects and donors in order to raise awareness about Larry Sharpe’s campaign.
  • Assist in the management and organization of events to bring supporters of our movement together and raise financial support for the campaign.
  • Develop strategies to improve the campaign’s reach and visibility.

Qualifications and Requirements

  • Strong organizational skills and prompt responsiveness to prospective donors
  • Verbal and written communication skills, especially concerning persuasiveness
  • Self-motivation and the ability to work collaboratively
  • Skill in managing multiple competing priorities and deadlines
  • Commitment to limited government values and vision
  • Ability to maintain and handle confidential information with utmost integrity, discretion, and professionalism
  • Enthusiasm and creativity with regard to promoting independent candidates
  • Ability to travel throughout the region for campaign events and meetings
  • Limited need for administrative support and the ability to function with autonomy and independence
  • An existing personal network of prospective supporters is strongly preferred

Education & Training

  • Bachelor’s degree is preferable.
  • 2 – 5 years of significant experience in fundraising, sales, prior political campaigns, non-profit development, or other related roles.
  • Experience in finding, connecting, and building relationships with prospective partners and benefactors.
  • A successful track record of meeting established goals.
  • Proficiency in Google applications.
