The Applied Technology Services (ATS) organization provides high-value engineering, testing and analysis services and expertise across multiple disciplines to support various company organizations in identifying, diagnosing and solving technical problems. The staff provides consultation and advice to clients to proactively avoid future problems by specifying equipment, materials, and methods that are best practices in the industry. Services include technology demonstrations, inspections, failure analysis, performance assessments, and laboratory and field evaluations of a wide variety of systems essential to supporting a safe, reliable, affordable, and clean utility grid of the future.
This Expert Engineer reports to the Supervisor for the Electrical Testing and Analysis group within ATS. This role will lead the company's Electric and Magnetic Fields (EMF) program. As the program lead, the successful candidate will be the primary point of contact to address concerns related to EMF exposure. Additionally, he/she will be responsible for educating and providing the support necessary for all EMF matters throughout PG&E, it's customers, regulators, government officials and/or the general public.
Since the EMF issue emerged as an area of concern in the early 1990's PG&E has had an EMF program. The EMF Program helps PG&E to address customer and employee concern about exposure to electric and magnetic fields in the face of scientific uncertainty of whether or not they have an impact on human health.
Perform EMF measurements in the field
Respond to customer Inquiries regarding EMF
Prepare Field Management Plans for utility construction projects to minimize EMF effects
Give EMF presentations to local communities and city governments
Provide training to other PG&E employees on EMF
Review and stay up to date on the latest EMF scientific research
Participate in the Electric Power Research Institute (EPRI) EMF Program
Lead and Provide support for any EMF-related issues at PG&E
Continually identify program improvements
Work closely with employees and leadership to continue to review and implement EMF policies and procedures, and provide employees with up-to-date information.

Travel required in the position up to 75% of the time.
Bachelor's degree in Engineering or science with an emphasis in a discipline related to assignments
Minimum of 7 years of relevant experience (i.e. Transmission Line Engineering, Substation Engineering, Electric Distribution Planning, Electric Transmission Planning)
Ability to travel up to 75%
Valid Class C California driver's license or the ability to obtain one by day one of employment
Professional Engineering (PE) License
Experience presenting and speaking to a diverse audiences
Strong oral and written communication, interpersonal skills
Government/Public relations experience
Customer service orientation, adapting to customer needs as appropriate
Broad understanding of engineering concepts, theories, practices, methods, techniques in area of specialty as well as general understanding of other engineering specialties
Strong investigative and analytical problem-solving skills
Excellent organizational and project management skills
