DEFINITION: Maintains SharePoint servers, applications, and enterprise systems. Participates in the development, implementation, maintenance, and enhancement of computer network infrastructure including hardware, software, and related components.
EXAMPLES OF DUTIES:

  • Installs, configures, administers, and maintains Microsoft SharePoint (current version) servers, along with other enterprise servers.
  • Schedules and maintains backups of the Microsoft SharePoint and other enterprise servers.
  • Develops and modifies applications and reports using various tools.
  • Creates stored procedures and designs tables and creates views as needed.
  • Installs, configures, tunes, and maintains VMWare servers in a large farm environment located in two physically separated data centers.
  • Provides support for business continuity and disaster recovery operations.
  • Ensures system security and assists as needed during network/server forensics work.
  • Participates in functions that relate to compliance with the BCPS Quality Management System in order to maintain ISO9001 certification.
  • Participates in and provides support for internal and external audits as necessary.
  • Installs, configures, and maintains network systems as needed.
  • Installs, configures, and maintains network management tools as needed.
  • Serves as a team member in the development, implementation, maintenance, and enhancement of email systems, database servers, web servers, and network infrastructure components as needed.
  • Ensures that projects assigned are completed in accordance with established deadlines and standards. Prepares estimates of project time and costs.
  • Maintains documentation for network configurations, equipment, and procedures. Maintains server hardware inventory. Designs, sets up, and administers Win2003/Win2008/Win2012 servers.
  • Manages policies and standards for SharePoint, email and backup servers and systems.
  • Researches and gathers data regarding application requirements. Develops and documents design and program specifications as needed.
  • Configures, maintains, and monitors database server applications as needed. Tunes and optimizes SQL database objects, including databases, tables, views, stored procedures, object privileges/authorizations, and referential integrity constraints.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Graduation from an accredited college or university with a bachelor’s degree in computer science or a related field, plus four years of experience supporting network infrastructure and administering network servers in a large, geographically dispersed environment.
  • 2+ years of hands-on SharePoint (current version) administrative, configuration, and maintenance experience is required.
    Note: Other combinations of applicable education, training, and experience that provide the knowledge, abilities, and skills necessary to perform effectively in the position may be considered.
  • Licenses and Certificates: Possession of general Microsoft Certified Technology Specialist (MCTS) or Microsoft Certified IT Professional (MCITP) certifications is required. Possession of a MCTS or MCITP SharePoint 2010 is preferred.
  • Knowledge of the principles and practices of developing, implementing, maintaining, and enhancing computer network infrastructure. Knowledge of SharePoint servers, SQL servers, Internet information servers, and Windows 2003/2008/2012. Knowledge of the design, setup, and administration of Win2003/Win2008/Win2012 servers. Knowledge of administering email, Internet access, backup, anti-virus programs, network security, remote access, and LAN/WAN technologies. Knowledge of design, implementation and administration of Active Directory.. Knowledge of operational and network connectivity problems across LAN/WANs. Knowledge of protocols including TCP/IP, IPX, SMTP, IMAP, POP3, http, FTP, DHCP, WINS, DNS, LDAP, VPN Client, and OSI Model. Knowledge of MOSS, PowerShell, and SharePoint site configurations.
  • Skill in administering network servers including SharePoint servers, SQL servers, and Internet information servers in a large, geographically dispersed environment. Skill in the development, implementation, maintenance, and enhancement of computer network infrastructure. Skill in evaluating technology and recommending network configurations and topologies. Skill in maintaining documentation for network configurations, equipment, and procedures. Skill in analyzing, testing, and implementing database designs that support new and existing business applications.
  • Ability to serve as a project team leader in the development, implementation, maintenance, and enhancement of SharePoint systems, databases, web services, and network infrastructure components as needed. Ability to administer multiple projects simultaneously. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with departmental team members, office-based, and school-based team members.

PHYSICAL AND ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS: The work of this class is generally sedentary and performed in an office environment. Duties require travel to schools and facilities throughout Baltimore County and other areas, and the lifting and carrying of heavy network infrastructure equipment at times.
CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT: Persons appointed to this class are required to be on-call 24/7 and may be required to work beyond their normally scheduled hours with little or no advanced notice. A cell phone and data plan stipend will be provided. Work includes evenings, weekends, and holidays as required.
SALARY: Grade 09 on the Administrative, Executive and Professional payscale $75,802 - $110,363 annually
