Blue Shield of California (BSC) is looking for a Sr. Pharmacist, Medicare and Product Strategy for our Pharmacy Product Strategy and Operations Team to serve as a pharmacy liaison to Medicare line of business to recommend and implement product and benefit programs to meet client business objectives and facilitate membership growth. The position may also support other lines of business as appropriate.
The Sr. Pharmacist, Medicare and Product Strategy will report directly to the Manager, Pharmacy Product Strategy and may be based in our San Francisco, El Dorado Hills or Woodland Hills office, or may telecommute.
The purpose of the Pharmacy Product Strategy and Operations team is to lead pharmacy product strategy and implement competitive and affordable pharmacy benefits to support membership growth in all market segments.
Key Pharmacy Product Strategy and Operations accountabilities include:
Responsible for the design, development and
launch of new pharmacy products and continuous assessment of current portfolio offerings and performance.
Lead cross functional processes to brainstorm,
influence and recommend pharmacy product ideas and incorporate into multi-year roadmap with stakeholders
pharmacy liaison to support business markets performance and objectives
legislation monitoring and assessment, and collaborate with other pharmacy areas as needed to formulate compliant action plans
Pharmacist with pharmacy strategy and pharmacy benefit management/health plan operational expertise.
Strong understanding of Medicare/Exchange markets and pharmacy products.
Works independently and collaboratively with multi-disciplinary teams with minimal oversight and direction from the manager.
Essential Job duties and responsibilities
The Sr. Pharmacist, Medicare and Product Manager is responsible for the overall coordination and leadership of pharmacy benefits and products for Medicare line of business. As a primary pharmacy business contact, the pharmacist recommends and implements programs and strategies to meet Medicare client objectives and build strong relationships with key stakeholders through consultative services. The position may also support other lines of business as appropriate. Key responsibilities include:
· -Understand business drivers and competitive market landscape for individual and group Medicare lines of business
· -Provide consultation and recommendations to Medicare stakeholders regarding pharmacy program and benefit change opportunities
· -Active participation in Medicare business meetings to understand business trends and drivers, support strategy development and provide pharmacy updates as needed
· - Collaborate with key pharmacy partners (e.g. formulary, clinical, analytics) to identify, evaluate and implement product and management opportunities to support annual bid renewal and go to market
· -Provide support to group Medicare client renewal and new sales, including RFP support and product strategy
· -Provide support in the evaluation, assessment and implementation of pharmacy mandates
· Other duties as assigned
Education and minimum Experience Level: · Pharm.D. degree and 3 or more years of health plan or PBM operational experience required · Prior experience in pharmacy benefit management for Medicare, Medicaid or Commercial membership preferred · Experience in pharmacy benefit implementation with cross-functional teams preferred · Good business acumen with demonstrated ability to interpret pharmacy trend and performance indicators · Ability to work in a matrix environment and interpret business information to formulate strategic recommendations · General familiarity with regulatory processes and guidelines governing health insurance products · Currently active unrestricted California Registered Pharmacist (R.Ph.) license
