JOB TITLE: Senior Software Engineer

The Sr. Software Engineer is an advanced position with considerable relevant technical knowledge and experience. The Sr. Software Engineer is responsible for analyzing and developing the applications and other software components necessary to provide various features to our clients. Develops software solutions by studying information needs; conferring with the client, studying system flows, data usage, and work processes following the software development lifecycle. The Sr. Software Engineer works closely with the Principle Engineer to architect solutions to support new products, either applications or software integration between legacy systems and new systems and software. The Sr. Software Engineer updates job knowledge by studying state-of-the-art development tools, programming techniques, and computing equipment; participating in education opportunities; reading professional publications. Provides progress update reports and manages any issue or technical difficulties on a regular basis. Supports and develops junior software engineers by providing coaching and educational opportunities.

This position regularly interfaces with: VP, IT/Engineering, Director, Information Systems; Manager, Billing Application Support; Supervisor, Computer Operations; Principal Engineer; Software Engineer; BSS/OSS Analyst; Server Application Support Engineer.

This position reports to: Manager, Application Development and Support

The Sr. Software Engineer is accountable for the following items:
  • Provides support to the front line developers in support of the existing software and interfaces
  • Planning and successfully executing software development;
  • Planning and successfully implementing data migration and integrations processes to legacy systems using identified development tools and technologies
  • Actively looking for software efficiencies and implementing enhancements as needed
  • Serving as the source for software expertise within the Application Development area
  • Assuming technical ownership and responsibility for portions of the company’s software infrastructure
  • Ensuring the security of the company’s facilities against any and all unsolicited and unauthorized access
  • Developing and maintaining appropriate and current documentation, flowcharts, layouts, diagrams, charts, code comments and clear code on the software environment(s), and all necessary support and maintenance tasks
  • Investigating new technologies and providing recommendations
  • Protects operations by keeping information confidential
  • Adhering to the Company’s policies and procedures, including the EEO guidelines and safety at all times
  • Adhering to all department practices, procedures, and policies
  • Performing any miscellaneous departmental duties as assigned

Education and Experience
  • Bachelor Degree in a Technology field or 8 years equivalent experience – Required
  • 8 years experience in designing, architecting and developing applications – Required
  • Experience with Microsoft SQL Server - Required
  • Experience with the software development cycle and a high level of comfort with Git – Preferred
  • Experience with API-first development - Preferred

Other Skills and Requirements
  • Experience with HTML/Javascript/CSS based browser applications
  • Developing and consuming REST & SOAP-based web services
  • Experience with Laravel (PHP), Angular (Javascript), Perl, or similar languages and frameworks
  • Experience with Linux-based systems
  • Maintain an acceptable driving record at all times
  • Valid Driver's License
  • Acceptable background check, including legal, education, credit, physical and drug
  • Maintains confidentiality and does not disclose confidential information acquired in the course of work except when authorized and/or unless legally obligated to do so.

Walking, kneeling, standing, stooping, sitting, driving, hearing, talking, vision, and use of hands and fingers. Light lifting of 20 lbs. is occasionally needed.

  • The Sr. Software Engineer is a full-time exempt position. The regular business hours 40 hours a week but may vary to accommodate departmental needs.
  • The Sr. Software Engineer works in an automated business office environment with business office equipment including telephones, personal computers, copy machines and FAX equipment.
  • The Sr. Software Engineer is required to drive on the job as needed and is subject to regular MVR checks. He/she must maintain a valid driver’s license and maintain a driving record the meets Company standards for an insurable driver at all times. Any time these conditions are not met, he/she must not drive on the job and must immediately report it to their supervisor.
