The Center for Popular Democracy builds organizing power to transform the local, state, and national policy landscape through deep, long-term partnerships with leading community organizing groups and progressive labor unions nationwide.
We seek an energetic legal professional to join the organizations workers rights and economic justice policy team. The Staff Attorney for Workers Rights and Economic Justice will help develop policy and win victories on next-generation issues like forced arbitration, expanding access to the earned income tax credit, improving the quality of child care jobs, labor practice transparency, and other workers rights policies. The Staff Attorney will also support exciting state and local campaigns in established policy areas like minimum wage, paid sick days, fair work week, and wage theft prevention; and help support CPDs work at the intersection of racial and economic justice policies, including transformative models of economic power-building in communities of color, such as Black worker or immigrant worker cooperatives.
The Staff Attorney for Workers Rights and Economic Justice will:
Support CPDs Workers Rights and Economic Justice policy work as a member of the organizations cross-departmental Workers Rights and Economic Justice Team;
Build CPDs workers rights and economic justice campaigns by providing strategic research, policy development, and advocacy support for our work with partners.
Represent the organization at external meetings, coalition tables, and conferences.
A demonstrated commitment to social justice issues and understanding of challenges facing low-wage workers, immigrant communities, and communities of color;
A law degree; two or more years of legal work experience preferred but not required;
Excellent research, writing, and analytic skills;
An ability to juggle multiple projects at a time and work in a fast-paced environment;
A demonstrated commitment to excellence and a history of getting things done in the face of obstacles;
At least three years of experience in community organizing, labor organizing, or working with broad-based advocacy coalitions;
Proven ability to self-motivate and work independently;
Ability to work well with diverse groups and populations;
Dedication and ability to work flexible hours;
Spanish/English bilingual preferred but not required.
