This is an IATSE 839 position covered by a collective bargaining agreement.

The Background Concept Artist specializes in environment design. Artist will work closely with the directors, production designers, art directors, and other creative leads to assist in world-building, creating concept art and finished designs for a 2D/3D-hybrid premiere animated series. Seeking people with experience in visual development, background painting, background design, 2D layout, prop design, etc.

• Responsible for designing environments, sets, props, EFX, vehicles, color keys, graphics, architecture, etc.
• Develop and complete finished concept artwork and production ready assets within assigned deadlines.
• Generates multiple versions of environment exploration.
• Resolve design problems with creative supervisors.
• Be available throughout work hours to receive briefs and notes, and attend meetings.
• Communicate progress of work to appropriate production staff.
• Assist with special projects.

• Must be comfortable tackling a wide range of environments: organic, mechanical, architectural, sci-fi, alien, historical, contemporary, MCU etc.
• Must demonstrate high-level drawing and painting skills
• Artists are expected to have a solid understanding of composition, value, perspective, color, shape language, and overall design.
• High proficiency with Photoshop is a must, and knowledge of or willingness to learn applicable design and production software and hardware.
• Knowledge of 3D modeling a plus.
• Strong time-management skills.
• Strong communication skills.
• Works well under pressure.
