During the COVID-19 crisis, the concept of work-life balance has seemingly disappeared for many workers. Hours were extended to meet deadlines and keep businesses afloat, blurring the lines between their home and work lives. The concept of work-life balance varies across companies, but we looked at Glassdoor reviews from the past six months to reveal which employers actually prioritized the well-being of their employees during a difficult time.
Specifically, we analyzed millions of employee reviews on Glassdoor to identify the top companies for work-life balance in the U.S. and UK, as COVID-19 heightened the stress and turmoil people across the world face in and out of work.
Key Findings:
We analyzed employee reviews left on Glassdoor between March 1, 2020 and September 30, 2020 to identify the top companies for work-life balance in the U.S. and UK. The tables below highlight the 20 Highest Rated Companies for Work-life Balance During the COVID-19 crisis for employees in the U.S., and the 15 Highest Rated Companies for Work-life Balance During COVID-19 for companies in the UK.
Acuity Insurance rises to the top of the list because of its strong work-life balance rating during this time period. Several reviews for Acuity Insurance mention the flexible work schedule allowing employees to focus on their personal lives. Each of the 20 U.S. employers on the list have an average work-life balance rating of at least 4.5 during the period. These companies with great work-life balance come from a variety of industries including tech, finance, healthcare, retail and more. While tech companies account for the largest group on this list, there are companies from a wide variety of industries, proving that work-life balance can be a priority at any company.

ICP Nurseries rises to the top of the UK list with a rating just under 5.0 for work-life balance (the rating in the table is rounded up to 5.0). ICP Nurseries employees on Glassdoor consistently mention the great employee benefits as well as the company’s support of employee mental health. Employees working at the companies on this list likely find themselves in very different work environments, but their employers have at least one thing in common: they have adapted during COVID-19 to help their employees maintain a healthy work-life balance.

For workers feeling burnt out or anxious, these companies have been able to help provide a healthy work-life balance, according to employees. Flexible hours, benefits in and out of work and a focus on mental health are some of the key insights highlighted by employees at companies on these lists. As the pandemic progresses and winter looms, employers hopefully will even further prioritize their employees’ wellbeing and work-life balance.

This list was compiled using reviews left on Glassdoor from current and former U.S.-based employees between March 1, 2020 and September 30, 2020. Intern reviews were excluded from this analysis. All companies on the list had at least 75 work-life balance reviews during the time period. The average work life balance rating displayed extends beyond the 10th decimal place to determine this ranking.
UK Methodology
This list was compiled using reviews left on Glassdoor from current and former UK-based employees between March 1, 2020 and September 30, 2020. Intern reviews were excluded from this analysis. All companies on the list had at least 50 work-life balance reviews during the time period. The average work life balance rating displayed extends beyond the 10th decimal place to determine this ranking.
