Hi everyone! Can anyone in EY explain me (briefly) the different tax sub service lines (Atlanta specifically). I am starting as a DSG staff member and have to submit a preference form so I don’t want to make a decision without knowing anything. Any help is great appreciated!!

Heard Sales Tax is the best sub service line.

GCR- global compliance and reporting. This SSL signs off on the tax provision for audit clients, and large income tax compliance engagements for public companies. PCS- private client services. Income tax compliance for private companies, partnerships, family office, etc. ITTS- international tax and transaction services. International tax includes consulting and international tax structure planning as well as international compliance. Becoming more compliance heavy recently with all the new requirements. Transaction services is tax due diligence for M&A. Transfer pricing is also under the ITTS SSL. Indirect tax - there’s a lot that fits under here. Sales tax, state income tax, property tax, C&I, VAT and more. In a large office like Atlanta you would be in a practice such as sales tax but in a smaller office someone could be more of an indirect tax generalist. BTS - business tax services. This is more of the fed tax consulting practice. R&D studies and methods changes are the big services. I’m sure there’s other things that I’m missing. Not sure exactly how Atlanta handles their DSG (every office does it a little differently) but they are probably asking your preferences for which groups you want to have a rotation with. I doubt it will set anything in stone for your whole career. Indirect, ITTS, and BTS are more consulting practices. There are a fair amount of attorneys working in these practice (as well as CPAs) due to the tax law research and planning involved. GCR and PCS are more compliance which tends to draw your more typical accountant types. GCR will be your more traditional tax background with provision and compliance so I think every DSG should have experience there. Then maybe pick ITTS or indirect to see something different from GCR.
