About to be a Senior 3 in people consulting at EY. Unsure when I’ll get to manager (EY seems to be not promoting as many rn). Offer from grant thorton offering me 20k more than I make now. Asking for a signing bonus as well. They’re building a new change management practice. Should I go?
The key to being promoted (beyond capability) is to be likeable. To be likeable, you need to be relatable. To be relatable, you need to have a wide range of hobbies and interests and appeal to familiarity - eg have kids, watch sports, play golf, etc.
Anybody else have a harder time getting a job after leaving McKinsey than before you joined? Exited the firm over a year and a half ago and I have not been able to secure an offer ANYWHERE, despite having many interviews.
Does anyone else cringe a bit when they see a former intern, or similar, have “ex-BCG”, “former Bain”, “PwC alum”, etc. on their LinkedIn headline? I don’t like it generally, and I don’t feel like an intern even counts. I truly hope it helps someone get a job, just cringy.
I spent some time at Deloitte and hated it for many reasons. I have an offer on the table with KPMG and wondering if the culture there is any better. Any insights from someone who worked at both?
Assuming you want to go to industry and not do the same work for another firm, you generally have two routes. 1) finance & accounting operations, 2) internal consulting/PM role. The prior is easy to find jobs, that latter is more niche in industry but they exist. Some very large companies have internal consulting teams. Others bury the role within the function, usually as a functional analyst for large tech projects. Lately I’ve actually been seeing companies hire specifically for Finance Transformation and use FT in the job title. Seems like companies are interested in building internal FT capability.
