If you interview again for the same job, or even multiple times, what can you do differently to have a better chance of getting hired? Long story short, I’ve interviewed multiple times for a county job and never get an offer. I’m beginning to think that my experience doesn’t quite align, but they keep inviting me to interview whenever I reapply despite interviewing multiple times? When I get feedback they state they want to hear more of this or that. I comply the next time. But no offer.
I’ve started judging companies by how they reject candidates. Some places make you feel respected even with a no. I received the nicest rejection email today that let me down easy and still made me feel hopeful about my next interview. Others just ghost like a situationship. Can’t help but wonder how they think they’ll attract great talent they treated that way in the past?
Just read an article from Fortune about people feeling too burnt out to apply for jobs. Is that you? I get it. This paragraph really summed it up for me: "Compounding the immobility: job seekers are being ghosted at a three-year high, with more than half of applicants reporting no response from employers in the past year. Hiring experts connect the trend directly to AI-inflated application volumes overwhelming recruiters — the same feedback loop burning candidates out. [...]"
I went through this twice with two different companies. I generally tweak my resume if applying for a job again. I try to remember something they asked that seemed like an important skill and make sure I emphasize it in resume and interview. In general I just try to relax and have a conversation with the panel. I eventually got an offer at one of the companies. Sometimes it just comes down to the timing.
County jobs are hard to get, as the benefits & perks are very good. Often the position is filled before it’s listed to the public🙄. I have tried 2x and the last time the rejection letter was dated the same day as the posting closed…not even trying to sugar coat it. It’s who you know most of the time unfortunately.
At the next interview ask him or her to be specific about what your supervisor and the job will require of you. If you're confident you can meet that, or those, requirements than let them know in detail why you're qualified. Confidence & a positive attitude can go a long way. If you feel a bit under-qualified than let them know you'll work hard to meet those requirements. Best of luck to you!

The Comp Analyst is most certainly correct. I applied to the state of Florida for a mgr of a toll facility and the regional mgr stated I was #2 for the job, claiming I missed it by the person they hired. So I applied for an asst mgr job and was told the same thing. This went on about 8/9 times. She even called me the last time to apply for the position, as I had gave up on it as I knew it was rigged. They told me they had to change up the questions due to excellent interview skills.

But why do they purposely make it as such... ?
Legally, they have to put on a show and tell, by making it public knowledge and posting it for all to see. Accessibility doesn’t guarantee external entrance in employment. But it does guarantee systems, and box checking. Similar to nepotism but an inadmitance of it - for the sake of fairness and equity.
Maybe you can try learning from YouTube how to answer interesting interviews to get accepted. Maybe you can explore other abilities such as taking part in training to increase your value
Take notes after every interview, write names, questions and answers/examples you gave, to be coherent in case you reapplied. Make sure to ask "what the candidate, that is considered successful after half a year into the role does,". You will hear all the wishes and hopes your supervisor holds, his vision of your work. Make sure during next interviews to tap into this knowledge. You are convincing them you are that great fit (if it aligns with your vision of course, otherwise run). It will give you points if you can prove that between the interviews you was already working on meeting those needs. For eg. "4 months ago you asked me if i had experience with X, and i didn't, but i started this casual gig where i was exposed to/worked on X. Now I'm confident to apply it, i was careful to learn it because i know it's important here, for YOU. Especially in the environments where most candidates come from inside recommendation and you not, you need to appear as the greatest supporter of your direct boss.
