      Unemployed

WHY IS This SO Hard NOW
      10mo

Hey. I just found something out about ATS Software. What I learned: ATS software did a "resume help" notification on my Indeed account and offered a click to see how ATS software views my resume. It is HORRIBLE and made me feel worthless. i have decades of work history/ experience, my resume is put together ok? ATS sees my name, email, #. Graduating HS & year. and 1 job with NO info on my skills, relevance or anything. so it made it appear i have only worked 1 job for 2 years. this is a problem.

Hey everyone! I’ve been in Salt Lake City abit over a year now and I am a Salesforce developer pursuing a masters in computer science with a concentration in intelligent systems and data mining. I am trying to break out of the Salesforce ecosystem and having a tricky time trying to do that through ATS’s. I was wondering if there are any software engineers or software architects who would be willing to connect and share some insights into how to break into the broader tech ecosystem here in SLC

I am a recent ops analyst who specialized developing automation solutions.. after being laid off about 2 months ago, I’ve built a web app as a solution to tedious document based workflows that plague back office roles.. Essentially, it is a zero-code environment where users can define specific maps/tokens to extract from a document type that they use (think contracts, trade confirms) This info can then saved down securely and even put onto a new templates document.. Honest feedback - useful?

I find it really frustrating to waste multiple hours over last month tweaking resume for job description keywords to please and beat the ATS system for ones I don’t have a direct networking opportunity . The outputs from LLMs is even worse and easier incorporate by myself . I would rather spend time honing my skills and preparing . . Does anyone have suggestions around this craziness . It’s such a shitty experience in this day and age to do this ATS pleasing

Is anyone here on the inside of hiring who actually sees the results of ATS screening on candidate applications? From the hiring side, it seems an ultra-flawed tool to find a well-matched hire. Everyone AI scrubbing for keywords, all resumes sounding the same, no way to get a read on any candidate, but the filtering continues. It may process 100s of applicants, but is it doing a good job? Convince me that ATS is effective.

I spent two hours tailoring my resume for a role where I was a 95% skills match. The rejection email arrived 12 minutes later. No human could have read it that fast. We are no longer writing for people; we are writing keyword soup for bots. It feels less like a job search and more like trying to hack a search engine. Has anyone found a reliable way to bypass the ATS and actually get a human to look at your application?

Question for you Fish: have you considered getting help for Applicant Tracking System (ATS) optimized resumes? Those auto-rejections mean the computer removed you for various reasons, often formatting it couldn’t process. I’m considering offering a service to help folks optimize for these softwares, and wanted to gauge this crowd’s general interest/feedback. Thanks

I once went back to review resumes our ATS had automatically rejected and found two strong candidates who were filtered out just because they didn’t use the exact keywords. The only thing that keeps popping up in my mind is that are these tools actually helping us hire smarter, or are they quietly pushing away great talent? and what is your view as regards this particular tool?

Can someone give me a rundown on how to make an ATS resume? I was complaining to an ex-co-worker about how hard it has been to land an interview, and he said it's because I'm not optimizing my resume for the new AI software out there. Have you all found this to be true? If yes, please share how you primed your resume to be found by hiring teams.
