Non obvious take: this is not Al job loss. This is the Great DEl Hiring Unwinding. So many jobs were created over the past decade under fragile pretenses / immutable traits. le not talent. Hiring based on non talent traits left Amazon, in their eyes, bloated and inefficient. So they are addressing it. Al is the convenient air cover but not the root cause. The DEI Hiring Unwind may better explain this current wave of workforce displacement better than "Al".

I helped a friend with a job application today and watched Al turn her CV into three different people. One sounded like a CEO. One sounded like a superhero. One sounded nothing like her. It reminded me of when Al rewrote my cover letter and suddenly I was a "visionary engineering leader." Meanwhile I was eating noodles and trying to attach the right file. Is Al helping us stand out or making all applications sound identical?

I'm working on my resume. I heard that if I use Al like ChatGPT, it helps to get my resume in front of hiring managers. I've also heard that Al will flag that I used Al, so then it looks like I'm not being authentic. I have had mixed results. Does anyone feel like Al is being touted as a solution for everything, but it just makes their job harder? Need a resumé? AI. Need to prepare for an interview? AI. Need to negotiate an offer? AI. Need to network? AI. And most times AI just gives fluffy responses which need to end up having to be rewritten anyway. Frustrating.
