One thing I am struggling with during this job search is figuring out whether cover letters even matter anymore for tech roles. Some people say they never write them, others insist they are important. For hiring managers or recruiters here, do you actually read cover letters when reviewing applications? I would really appreciate hearing what worked for other people because I feel stuck lately.

When designing instruction manuals or product catalogs, typography hierarchy is everything. A clean, minimal layout with the right grid system doesn't just look good—it saves the client hours of customer support time. As a Print Designer, my favorite part of the process is preparing that flawless CMYK, PDF/X file. Designers here, what’s your favorite tool for layout—InDesign or Illustrator?

I’m starting to feel like cover letters are useless. I’ve written dozens tailored to each job, highlighting specific skills, even getting a little creative with format and I almost never hear back. Meanwhile, friends who just skip them entirely seem to get the same results as me. Part of me doesn’t want to waste hours writing something no one reads. Do you still write cover letters?

Does anyone actually read cover letters? I’ve spent hours tailoring letters only to realize that the recruiter probably spends 0.4 seconds looking at my resume before hitting delete. I’m tempted to start putting a recipe for chocolate chip cookies in the middle of my letters just to see if anyone notices. Is it safe to stop writing these?

Dipped my toe into some job applications this week and am confronted with the eternal question: are cover letters worth it? Does a human ever read them, even if you're contacted for an interview? Should I just try to hit every keyword from the advert to get past AI screening? Anyone who's got a new job in the last 2 years, I want your feedback...

I’ve been told that nobody actually reads cover letters anymore, but every portal still requires one. I’ve been using a pretty standard template for years,. I want to show a bit of personality, but I’m afraid of being too much for a conservative legal recruiter. Is it better to stick to the boring formula, or does a hook actually work in this industry?

For people currently job hunting in tech, are you still writing cover letters for every application? I can’t tell if recruiters even read them anymore. Part of me feels like I’m wasting hours customizing documents when most applications probably get filtered by ATS systems before a human even sees them.

I’m tired of being told that my lack of an MBA is the only thing holding back my salary. I have five years of direct experience, a CFA charter. Yet, HR insists that the Senior title and the $200k bracket are reserved for people with those three specific letters after their name. Is this the standard everywhere? Is it time for me to get it?

Please chat—what are your thoughts on cover letters, when they aren’t required? Are you spending time writing them for each job you apply to? In my experience, it’s much better time spent tailoring my resume to the JD and then trying to follow up with a recruiter and/or hiring manager. But I am curious to hear your thoughts?
