      Job Hunting in Tech

      Implementation Project Manager
      2mo

I recently had a 3rd interview at a company. The first two went amazing. This one I had to prepare a presentation for a mock acquisition. I interpreted the instructions differently than were intended. I realized mid presentation that I wasn’t hitting the mark. I was able to pivot some but knew my content wasn’t correct. The panel gave me decent feedback that I was able to keep my composure well and that they liked I could pivot. Is there a chance at all I am still in the running?

Should I expect thanks from senior leadership for delivering significant product milestones, such as product launches? I don't work for a very large company and I will chat to the director in the office. I'm not expecting a parade, but basic acknowledgement a job was done with success. Is it me and is this an unreasonable expectation as a professional, and I am expected to do my job and shouldn't be thanked for it? I'd be really interested in hearing what experience people have of this. TIA

Do you practice your interview answers out loud? I do it in the car, in the shower, while cooking, even while pacing in the living room like a TED Talk speaker. If anyone overheard me, they’d think I was arguing with myself. But honestly it helps so much! It turns the rambling in my head into something structured. Just wondering if other people do this too or if I’m the only one giving speeches to my steering wheel.

Does anyone actually get replies to their thank-you notes? I have never in dozens of interviews, including from companies that offered me jobs. But after my interview this week with 2 managers, I sent each a separate thank you, and both responded - just short "thank you as well" messages, but still. I was so surprised! Should I respond or just wait? I don't want to sound desperate. lol!

What’s something you do that you'd say is different from other companies in the candidate experience? We started sending out ‘thank you’ emails after interviews, and it's been a huge game-changer. Candidates send in such heartfelt messages. I guess it's a simple gesture, but hugely appreciated. Share something you feel is an underrated aspect of the candidate experience that makes a big impact!

What's the point of running yourself into the ground if all you get for it is hollow praise? It's not that acknowledgment and appreciation don't have their place, but I helped accomplish a huge feat for my company, working my soul away for it, and all I got was a shout-out in the all-hands meeting. Is it greedy of me to think this is a good time to talk about a raise or promotion?

Do you do anything to draw attention to yourself during your competitors annual conference? We’re thinking about buying the billboards out around the hotel in Vegas. There’s a particular one across the street from where they’re holding their conference that would face everyone’s window. I love the idea, but wondering if anybody else has done something like this.

I recently completed an Interview at HHC and I sent a thank you email. Usually the interviewers never answer me but I did receive a response from the interviewer stating "It was a pleasure meeting with you. I hope to speak with you soon. Have a great weekend". Does this mean I have at least a slim chance or is it just standard response? Its for an EA position

So I have an interview for this Senior EA position, I’m currently employed but this one pays more. I’ve always worked for top companies that had presentation departments or Analysts did all the presentations. I really want this job but I’m not great at PowerPoint but the other requirements I can do with my eyes closed. Should I keep the interviews or bow out bow?

What's the most insulting comment you've gotten after an interview that you can laugh about now? An interviewer repeatedly said how shocked he was by my interview because I interviewed so well and he repeated that he was shocked. Do interviewers think minority candidates without an education are unprofessional? LOL. I tried not to laugh and said thank you.
