In my latest post, I discussed silent errors in data pipelines. While it’s difficult to write truly effective tests (such as TDD) for data-related tasks, the best solution I’ve found in my current role is to validate the data at both the start and the end of the pipeline to avoid silent errors. For example, I created an Airflow DAG that runs every 6 hours. It validates the data by comparing statistical metrics such as sum, avg, std, etc. between the source and target datasets for numeric fields.

      Job Hunting in Tech

      Junior Data Scientist

I recently finished a DS program while in college (graduating in one year for BS Data Analytics). I’ve been job searching, now currently I’ve only had 2 internships. If I want to land a job in Data Science field, what’s the best approach? Do I first start as a Data Analyst then work my way up to Data Scientist? I’ve applied to about 100 jobs+ for an Entry Level position for Data Analyst but have gotten nothing. Should I just stop applying and just finish my BS as quickly as possible then reapply

✅ Today: Built automation loop structure Tomorrow: One cell populates with real data Day 3: Three tokens pull data successfully Day 4: Manual scan of MUTM documented as a case study The AI model I am using Know's I have ADHD, and building a small business takes hours and hours of time. The only wins are self driven. I have been in complete hyperfocus mode. Was feeling burn't out. I created structure that is actually working. Anyone else try this? Thanks to those here for the inspiration

I had a discussion with some people this weekend about job boards that autofill a resume template with the one you just carefully tailored and uploaded. You then have to go through the autofilled template to fix omissions, placement errors, etc. The way I handle it now is do a 2-minute dry run through with a test email and test resume, to see if it gives you an option to simply upload the resume, or if you have to manually fill it in. Then I choose the best, most accurate method. Thoughts?

I have worked as a Bioprocess Lead across 3 cultivated meat companies. I have scaled processes from the bench to 2000L across multiple different iPSC cell lines. I carried out R&D for cost reduction, productivity improvement. I’ve carried out a TEA and led R&D strategy. I’ve also carried out the tech transfer of IP during an acquisition. I’d like to transition into consulting or carrying out technical due diligence. How can I make this transition? without being self employed

How do you all keep track of numbers or when people start introducing their methodology without visuals? I start tuning out as soon as I hear multiple numbers at once. The best way for me to pay attention and continue following along is to write things down, but people talk too fast. Delayed audio processing doesn't help either. I've struggled with this during case interviews and IRL, so I'm starting to wonder if I'm even capable of consulting or anything to do with numbers. :/

      Automation Engineer

I’m considering a pivot to airport/airline operations and engineering. Or anything in that field, really. I have ~5 years experience in Controls Automation and Project Management (1 in food & bev, 4 in pharma). My automation experience might not carry over, but I figure there would be at least *some* overlap. What roles/positions/jobs/companies/etc. do you guys think I’d flourish in? Also happy to share more info on my work experience as needed.

      Confession

      Consultant
      2mo

I work for a global company. Our department Director had us (Americas, India, China) create SOPs detailing step by step processes in the name of global process synchronization it felt like preparation to be let go. We are being trained in AI very suddenly and aggressively. Seems like the writing's on the wall, but not sure if I want to stay and wait it out in case nothing happens or find another role on my own terms sooner than later.
