      Public Speaking & Presentation Tips

      Senior Technical Program Manager
      7mo

I have learned, as the slow learner that I am, that visibility is more important in developing ones own personal brand than skills alone. Just joined toastmasters, picked up a no. of books, and learning about communication frameworks. I plan to record myself and watch them back to make a list. Then will take one item, that if resolved, would bring the highest ROI in maintaining positive audience attention and executive presence. Any feedback on my method choice?

Is anyone else trapped under superiors who view technological literacy as an optional hobby? I’m tired of being told to work smarter, not harder by partners who don't know how to use Ctrl+F. Management drops a mountain of unorganized discovery on your desk at 4 PM, tells you to stay efficient, and then complains when the hours pile up. They want the speed of modern technology but cling to the workflows of the 1990s because they don't understand how data mapping works.

I'm a junior engineer, but I inherited a project mid-construction because the designer left. I wasn't around for the early phases, but now I’m running the site meetings. I'm stressed about the technical gap and being asked questions I don't know the answers to. I don't want to appear clueless in front of the clients, even though I am. Is it okay to say that I don't know, but I will get back to them? Or does that look unprofessional?

      works at ServiceNow

Almost a year ago, on our way to drinks at JW Marriott Singapore, a PTC from overseas working in Singapore ServiceNow office, casually said, “Indians lack the intelligence to work at ServiceNow.” Said it like small talk. Since that day, I’ve only said “hi” and “bye.” Once someone shows you who they are, you can’t unsee it. What’s worse? He’s still here. For a company that preaches inclusion and belonging, the silence around people like this says it all.

Mgmt gave me a clear KPI (increase engagement/MAU for existing users) and a proposed solution. There are similar tools; ours would be free/integrated I'm reading Continuous Discovery Habits to prep and want to avoid jumping to delivery. My plan is to treat the solution as an idea and still research/validate the opportunity Some Qs When mgmt gives outcome and solution, how do you conduct discovery? Since MAU is a lagging metric, is it worth replacing it?

I once got a counteroffer after turning in my notice. It was a 10% raise, promises of a “bigger role soon,” the works. I stayed, and three months later, I was laid off in a reorg. It felt more like a stalling tactic than a sincere effort to keep me. Now I’m interviewing again, and another company is saying they’ll “match anything.” How do you tell if a counteroffer is actually worth trusting?

Nurses how do you feel about this so I’m a very quiet person. I do not like recognition you know or I don’t go out and tell everybody what I did however it’s nice to be recognized once in a while by your manager, am I right? I just feel like I’m losing all motivation at work when others are getting recognized and I am not mind you. I do a lot my numbers show it. Just curious what your take is on this subject.

I'm trying to figure out the etiquette around permanent resume posting. I've kept mine on Indeed for two years, even though I'm employed, because you never know when the perfect project will come along. But recently, I heard people talking at work saying that some managers will actively check these sites to see if their employees are looking. Should I take mine down to avoid suspicion, or is this just paranoid thinking?
