Am I going to be worked to the bone if I join a group where I’d be the only associate supporting partners and counsels? It’s a subgroup of a corporate practice that focuses on a specialized area with great exit options and operates as a support group for other transactional and/or lit groups (like tax or IP). It’s a newly created position meaning there aren’t any previous associates that I can ask about their experience. I really like type of work the team does but worried about being miserable.

Been researching with no luck… any tips on best way to do individual orders for a group? I’ve looked at ezCater and Uber Eats, i thought about Relish but it seems like you need to sign up and do a program with them. Have a meeting for a group of 10 on a Friday, not everyone eats breakfast so instead of ordering large trays for 10, I’d like to send people a link the day before where they can order their individual meal by a certain time and it will be delivered by set time on Friday AM. TIA!

Anyone out there at a firm with a well-supported tax group? I’m at an AM40 and am basically the sole associate for a very small group of hoarding partners, which has resulted in feast or famine for me and I feel like I’m about to lose my mind. I can’t specialize (because if I do, I lose a chunk of work) and I feel like I’m on an island. I think I’m ready for something better, and would move to seize that opportunity, but I don’t have any ideas. 4th year with LLM if helpful.

I recently joined a new firm and while everyone’s technically nice, there’s a clear “in group” on every project. Jokes I don’t get, Slack threads I’m not tagged in, impromptu coffee chats I only hear about after the fact. It’s not toxic, but it’s definitely isolating. I’m trying not to force connections or be that person who pushes too hard to fit in, but I also don’t want to stay on the outside. How do you actually build real relationships across teams like this?

If you are currently facing financial hardship and could benefit from this opportunity, please respond to this message indicating your interest and briefly describing your situation. Please note that providing this information does not guarantee selection, but it will help me assess the overall need and tailor the application accordingly. I will then select 20 individuals from the group to be part of this

If a small specialized lit group gets poached by another firm, is it bad to join their group at the already-established firm they went to? They are building it out at the established firm and looking for associates at other firms for now, but not sure if folks have experience with that. Seems like a good way to pivot into a specialty, but worry about the risk too.

Only 3 partners in my group. 2 are fantastic to work for. 1 recently promoted partner is the worst. Poor planning, not responsive, condescending, multiple calls late at night, etc. I’m happy at my group but considering leaving b/c of her. Work comes evenly between the 3 partners and I don’t have enough from the other 2 to say no to the bad one. Advice?

Newish equity partner here (2012 Grad) and I have some advice for associates I wish someone would have told me ten years ago. DONT TRY TO PLEASE EVERYONE. It likely won't work and you will burn out. It is much easier and safer to pick a small group to please and forsake everyone else. This comes naturally to some but it was a struggle for me.

What are your thoughts about group interviews? I'm not a fan at all but for the last quarter, management has been pushing group interviews and I'm not sure what they think the benefit is. I just think that no candidate is feeling seen or heard, and also that it reduces our chances at really gauging their potential.... How do other's feel about them?
