Am I going to be worked to the bone if I join a group where I’d be the only associate supporting partners and counsels? It’s a subgroup of a corporate practice that focuses on a specialized area with great exit options and operates as a support group for other transactional and/or lit groups (like tax or IP). It’s a newly created position meaning there aren’t any previous associates that I can ask about their experience. I really like type of work the team does but worried about being miserable.

Anyone out there at a firm with a well-supported tax group? I’m at an AM40 and am basically the sole associate for a very small group of hoarding partners, which has resulted in feast or famine for me and I feel like I’m about to lose my mind. I can’t specialize (because if I do, I lose a chunk of work) and I feel like I’m on an island. I think I’m ready for something better, and would move to seize that opportunity, but I don’t have any ideas. 4th year with LLM if helpful.

Anyone know Wise Wolves Group? They seem like obscure crypto bros and one of their recruiters just reached out to me because they're opening a US office. No clue what that brings but apparently they're looking for an accountant who's fluent in russian and english (hence that linkedin DM). But simultaneously, Cyprus and crypto bros means I'd like to make sure I don't end up on Laci Mosley's podcast.

Has anyone switched practice groups later in your career (as a mid/senior associate)? Or know people who did? What has your/their experience been like? I’m currently a 5th year restructuring associate feeling a bit pigeonholed but also worried that I’m too expensive to train.

Anyone have any intel on Willkie’s exec comp group? Looks like they (and PW, Latham and Kirkland) are always hiring. I’ve heard that the corporate group is more chill and I’m wondering if that is the case for exec comp too.

Can anyone in Latham’s Project Finance group speak to their experience with the team? I’m looking at CA but would love anyone’s perspective on the group generally, whether internal or whether you have worked across the table?
