      Healthcare

Lately I’ve been thinking that the most valuable skill in healthcare isn’t clinical expertise anymore, it’s emotional endurance. The ability to absorb stress, grief, anger, and constant pressure without breaking seems more rewarded than actual skill or knowledge. That realization worries me. It feels like the system is built to test how much people can take rather than how well they can care. Does anyone else feel uneasy about what that says about where healthcare is headed?

Hi everyone, I’m looking for advice from professionals in Healthcare tec.. I have 7 years of experience as a medical secretary. In 2022, I left my role to pursue a BS in Health Science with plans for nursing, but later completed an MS in Computer Science (finished in February). Since graduating, I’ve been struggling to break into Healthcare IT. I’d appreciate guidance on useful certifications, resume positioning, or hearing from others who’ve made a similar transition. Thank you.

I think we need better healthcare education in the US. People need to know what this terminology means, from referrals to deductibles, etc. I have become a pro from both being a patient and working in admin and it saves me so much time and lets me get to the meat of the issue. Patient rights are posted sure, but do they really know them? It's empowering to understand what's going on and be able to meaningfully participate in your care, and the coordination of it.

As we all know, healthcare just keeps getting more and more consolidated. I live in a rural area, and our local hospital, which has always been part of a bigger group, has recently centralized everything it does. This has contributed to the deterioration of care. Do you guys have any experience with this at your facilities? If so, what are your thoughts, and what can we do to reverse this trend?

Are healthcare IT pros with a clinical understanding in demand? I'm also curious what recruiters look for when matching candidates with hospitals or health networks. Would really appreciate it if you could share how to best highlight the value of tech skills combined with healthcare knowledge, as I'm in the process of sending out a bunch of applications after I got laid off 2 months ago.

Sometimes I yearn for the older days of healthcare, where if you were sick, the doctor would come to you. If you're not feeling well or are hurting, sometimes it is hard to get yourself to the doctor, especially if you live in a rural area. What is one thing you wish would come back to healthcare that has gone by the wayside? I would be interested to hear what you have to say.

18 years in healthcare has given me a front-row seat to how unprepared many families are when serious illness hits. Lately, I’ve been exploring ways to bridge that gap outside of clinical care—especially around financial education tied to terminal, critical, and chronic conditions. It’s been eye-opening. Curious if others in healthcare have come across this space as well.

I’ve spent most of my career in education, but I’m seriously considering a switch to healthcare, especially in non-clinical roles like patient advocacy or healthcare IT. What advice do you have for someone with transferable skills but no direct healthcare experience? What are some ways to highlight my background that make recruiters take my application seriously?

A friend of mine recently got back from a trip to Asia and she said that her experience with healthcare was so much better there. She needed an MRI after an injury and said it was totally seamless, no waiting, and attentive care. Has anyone heard similarly of healthcare in other countries, such as in Eastern Asia?
