      The Worklife Bowl

I've just launched a new community: Fintech Regulation! It's where we'll tackle the big policy shifts shaping our industry. Speaking of which, the SEC's 2025 roundtables on AI, Crypto, and Privacy are HUGE for our work lives. I've broken down how these changes impact our job security, career growth, and even work-life balance. Check out the full analysis and join the new community here: https://www.glassdoor.com/Community/fintech-regulation?utm_source=bowlshare&utm_content=community+bowl

I’ve done the classic path of consulting to fintech generalist (Strategy & Ops, Corp Strategy, etc.), and really all I’ve learnt is that I should have specialised at uni (finance, engineering, law) Now it’s been a few years and I can keep going but it will be a slow upward trajectory (promotion every 2-3 years if all goes well) Where next for ex-consulting, ex-fintech people? All I have is a generic project management skill at this point. Is startup the only way to making actual money?

Two exit options leaving as SM. Having trouble deciding on which to go with for long term narrative. Spent most of my time supporting PE DD and value creation in industrials and energy for context. Pay is on par for both 1) take a Sr Dir role with a large bank in corporate strategy, focusing on technology initiatives. Technology forward bank, I find fintech super interesting from a personal standpoint. decent track record of folks moving from tech into LOBs. (Continued in thread…)

I’m eight months into this fintech role after leaving a 23‑year banking career. Leaving banking was right, but this company and its remote‑leaning, sterile culture don’t feel like a fit. My team is polite but distant, and even shared spaces don’t build connection. I’m hesitant about how to ask for more support and worry about being judged. I’m also wondering if I should start looking again, though I’m unsure what that process should look like or how to even begin exploring it.

I have worked at Deloitte & PwC, and now at Natwest. Offer from a ~50-year-old fintech bank with strong culture/benefits. Lateral title (not a step up) but higher pay (~95k). For those who’ve done similar: Did moving to a smaller, established fintech/bank limit exit options (Big Tech, high-growth fintechs, strategy at larger banks, or returning to Big 4)? What mattered most to recruiters: brand vs. scope/title vs. measurable impact?

This week’s roundup paints a sharp picture of where fintech is heading—and what’s powering its next wave. Stablecoins are more than just crypto assets now—they’re programmable money infrastructure. Whether it’s intra-company treasury ops or agent-triggered micropayments, composability is turning stablecoins into the backbone of future money movement. www.fintechwrapup.com/p/card-networks-are-winning-big-in

Currently at a large bank (NatWest) with some sort of stability. I’ve got an offer from a smaller fintech with £5–10K more pay, great flexibility (only one day a month in the office, expenses reimbursed), and the work seems exciting. Planning to start a family soon — should I stick with the security of a big bank or take the jump for more pay and flexibility at a fintech?
