      Career Advice for Students

      works at Saint peter's university
      4mo

Just finished 'Data Science for Business' by Foster Provost & Tom Fawcett. What stood out most is its business-first approach to analytics, based on an NYU MBA course and real-world decision scenarios. A key insight: the biggest risk in analytics isn’t using the wrong model, but solving the wrong business problem. The book reinforces starting with decision clarity and translating insights into actions leaders trust. A great read for anyone building a business analytics mindset.

      Job Openings

      Data Analyst Intern
      6mo

I’ve been putting in steady work to build my data analytics skills. I’m proud of my Medical Insurance Analysis using MySQL and Power BI, where I cleaned and analyzed data and built DAX dashboards for real insights. I’ve also completed a Python data analysis project focused on cleaning, transforming, and exploring data to uncover meaningful patterns. Across these projects, I’ve strengthened my skills while learning to think critically like an analyst, troubleshoot issues, and grow consistently.

I’ve started making it a practice of researching companies I am thinking of applying to. If I am going to commit to something long term that is going to have a big impact on my life I like to know what I’m getting into. And not just their company website. Reviews, TikTok, Instagram, Facebook all the social media. I want to hear from customers, ex employees, current employees. Do you do research on companies you’re considering applying to?

      Job Hunting in Tech

      Data Analyst

Hi, does anyone have experience in the Anti Fraud Data Analyst at TikTok? I have an interview with a peer I believe tomorrow. The HR said it will be about the background and I will be asked about queries. Did anyone go through the process? How many steps are there, and what were the questions like? I am really a very good fit for the job and the only fear is to miss this chance. It would be a win-win if I can land this. Am I being too optimistic? Thanks!

Using Glassdoor to research jobs as a web developer has been incredibly helpful. I have "looked" at countless company reviews to get a sense of what the jobs are like and what the big companies really need so we can learn and adapt to fit in as the company culture is no less important than the technical skills. Researching the company and the people who have interviewed before creates a very useful knowledge base for interviewing with confidence.

I've been asked to come up with a program to equip leaders with more evidence-based strategies for reframing uncertainty as an opportunity for learning, innovation, and growth. I am so excited to start putting it together, but would love some ideas from people who have already worked on something like this. Brownie points for anyone who would like to share what worked well and what didn't stick!
