The racism against Indian people over the last 12 hours really shows in this group and the in America. Mind you - Indians (myself included) are tax paying, peace loving people who have achieved a lot independently. We believe in good karma and racism does not affect us as our purpose is higher- we simply better our own lives and better this country as well. India is especially vulnerable given its back office focused projects. These kind of things have a domino effect. Your maids, drivers, laundrymen, delivery folks will also get impacted. Whole economy would suffer. Kids graduating in IT, Computers would find it even more difficult. Transition is going to take a long time.

Random thought and frustration. American citizen here with family and 2 toddlers. Really feel like packing up life here and moving to Bangalore. Have some family there on husbands side. Feel like there atleast we can get maid, cook, nanny a bit more accessible and affordable. Have lots of family in states but they also all have their own lives naturally. Anyone else packed up and moved their family? Are you happy you did? I was born here so would have lots to learn. Just feeling nervous!

More and more, if I get a "first interview," it's with an HR person who is literally asking me the same questions that are on the application. Are you a citizen? Tell me what is on your resume. The job is in xxx; are you willing to commute to xxx? Do you have a PMP? Salary expectations... I just had one that lasted literally 6 minutes, with no opportunity for me to ask questions. I've had several of these and made it to the next round. Are they just trying to screen out people who can't speak?

Question for non-residents/immigrants: anyone who moved back recently to their home country? How much did you save up to make a successful transition? For context, I am from India, married, have a toddler. I work in mgmt consulting but feeling burnt out and losing interest in work. I am still going through the visa and green card processes which is also adding to the confusion. I have been looking for a new position in Silicon Valley. Is anyone else seeing situations where an Indian interviewer appears to be only advancing other Indian applicants? My second phase interviewer (Who was Indian) was completely disengaged from the start, but I did not assume anything like bias till a number of folks I talked to suggested that stats suggest there is bias among some Indians toward other Indians (From a recruiter at the company). Depressing if true.

Finally found a remote job after over 8 months of being unemployed due to my prior company laying my department off to outsource in India. Doesn't start until the 18th though as I still have screenings to pass. Unemployment benefits helped keep a roof over my head, lights on, basic bills paid, and food but only help so much. The starting pay isn't the best but will be more than unemployment and there will be overtime, shift differential and quarterly bonuses and room for growth.
