[Just venting] I booked a multi-city itinerary for about $2k (personal travel). Last week, I had to change the date of the first leg by a few days for a work reason, so I moved myself to premium plus and didn’t really mind that the fare difference was another $2k (all within policy). Now the work thing changed again and United is saying it will cost almost $3k in fare difference to revert to my original itinerary. Airfare is SUCH a joke!! And now I’ve been on hold with the 1K line for 1.5hrs 😩

I signed an offer letter stating a certain start date that I specifically requested and within about an hour of submitting the DocuSign, the internal recruiter emailed saying that the partners would like me to start one month before the start date already agreed upon because “their needs have become more immediate.” This seems like mess up on the part of the in-house recruiter, and I’m not inclined to agree to start the position an entire month prior to the date agreed to. Any advice?

I booked my boss’s trip from SFO to London on United and had the ticket issued. The agent later said British Airways was much cheaper, and it's company policy to purchase the lowest fare for the same trip. However, changes would cost a $199 fee. My boss was upset—he wanted to stick with United to earn more miles. How would you handle this and possibly convince your boss to switch?

A candidate once told me she didn't want to seem greedy, so she accepted the first offer. She left $10K on the table. I know because I saw the approved band. First offers are almost never the ceiling. They're the opening bid. In 6+ years, I've never seen an offer pulled because someone negotiated respectfully. Have you ever negotiated a tech offer? What happened?

How do you actually understand a team’s culture before you join? Companies all say the same things online, so I’m trying to get better at reading what’s real. What questions help you get a clearer picture during interviews? And have you ever declined a strong offer because the culture didn’t feel like a fit even when the pay was good?

I’ll say my first pay structure was a decent salary of $36k with a starting commission rate of 6% from day one in the insurance industry. When I first saw the numbers, I was very disappointed but after doing some math and seeing what I could make, I was a little happier. What was your first sales comp plan and how did it feel at the time?

People say you should always negotiate, never take the first offer. But what if the first offer actually feels really strong? Part of me feels like I’d be leaving money on the table if I don’t ask for more, but part of me worries I’d risk coming across as ungrateful. Has anyone been in that position, and how did you handle it?

      Job Hunting in Tech

      Bilingual Project Manager

Is it normal that United airlines has the same job position since 2019? Ever since I've been reached out by recruiters and headhunters for scrum master, project manager or business analyst positions and either they never hire or the rotation is insane since those roles never get filled up. Has anyone noticed this with sever other companies?

When I first broke into tech, I accepted the first offer I got — $48k for a dev role. I didn’t negotiate because I was just happy to be there. Years later, I found out others on my team with less experience were making $20k more. Anyone else have a first-job learning experience or regret like that?
