I signed an offer letter stating a certain start date that I specifically requested and within about an hour of submitting the DocuSign, the internal recruiter emailed saying that the partners would like me to start one month before the start date already agreed upon because “their needs have become more immediate.” This seems like mess up on the part of the in-house recruiter, and I’m not inclined to agree to start the position an entire month prior to the date agreed to. Any advice?

Which to choose for 1st IH role? A: Assist. Counsel/ Counsel at established co., but RTO 5 days/wk; slightly higher comp (<30K diff), more interesting work/ likely to build more transferable skillset, more training & mentorship B: AGC at a startup, but RTO 2 days/wk; less resources and budget (have to figure out more stuff on your own & limited ppl to ask for help), less desirable field/ work, lower comp I have 2-4 relevant YOE but can see myself learning a lot but different things at both.

First year corporate associate with fairly low hours since starting. September through early January were rather slow, busy tail end of January, and slow start to February. I've been staffed on at least 5 deals at various stages and have received generally positive feedback on assignments, but can't shake the feeling I'm uniquely behind on hours / set for the chopping block soon. Am I overthinking this? Are first years generally pretty slow and expected to be safe?

For those who’ve recently started new roles, what’s been the hardest part of your first week? And for those still searching, what are you most looking forward to about your next first week? I"m hoping my next "first week" starts soon and I look forward to being able to branch out into something new and actually learn something. I've been in the same role for several years now and capped out at development opportunities, and that's what keeps me engaged.

When I finally land a job, I know my first salary won’t feel like a fresh start—it’ll go straight to clearing debts, unpaid bills, and all the expenses I’ve been juggling during unemployment. It’s tough realizing that the moment you’ve been waiting for won’t bring instant relief, just a chance to catch up. Let’s be real, anyone else feel like their first paycheck is already spent before it even arrives?

Hi. First jobber mismatch here, Is this normal? I've been working around 1.8 years — as a researcher, but ended up doing brand strategy & experience (not in my JD). No salary adjustment after taking more tasks and No clear career path, my boss didn't ask me to choose between experience or strategy role after led me into one direction (under experience). Is this common for first jobbers? Should I speak up or start looking?

When you got your very first paycheck after just entering the workforce, what did you initially do with that money and has the way you handled your income changed since then? I feel like that first paycheck is usually the first time a lot of people are getting a large influx of cash from a job so wondering if people spent it treat themselves or how they decided to end up saving it.

My first job out of college paid me $58k. I thought I was doing great... until I found out classmates in similar roles were starting at $70k or more. It took me years to catch up, and I still wonder how much faster I’d be growing if I’d negotiated harder from the start. I’ve heard people say your first offer sets your career’s tone, do you believe that?

      Jobs in Retail & Hospitality

I'm a complete newbie to working in a corporate structure. Basically, this would be first actual job. I've pretty much only worked summer jobs otherwise.. What is the best time to apply for jobs in retail? Is there such a thing as a best time to apply? I've applied to over 70 jobs and haven't had any luck so far. Could you please guide me on how to get that first job?

Hi everyone, looking for advice. Left toxic job for PT admin role, not really my area of expertise but they liked me. Not had contract, starting next week. In meantime interviewed for role more my area, won’t know if successful for 2 weeks. Should I start first job Tuesday and if successful with second leave and take that especially as not signed a contract?
