My entire world flipped upside down. My husband is a highly specialized surgeon, a great father to our 2 kids, and early last year, after 9 years of schooling, he landed his dream job. His comp went up $300k, we got a new house, we committed to private schools, we were excited. We have a great community and are incredibly close to a family with 3 kids - her oldest is in school with my youngest. Turns out, she is in bed with my husband 😬

My mentor swears you should always counter a job offer, even if it already feels generous. I recently got a great offer with a strong base, signing bonus, solid benefits, and part of me wanted to just say yes and not rock the boat. But now I’m wondering if I left money on the table by not pushing back. I know negotiating is expected, but I was genuinely happy with what they gave me… and I didn’t want to come off as greedy or high maintenance. What’s your take?

The counter-offer dilemma is a trap most of us fall for at least once. You've been underpaid for years. You finally get an outside offer — $95K vs. your current $78K. Suddenly your company finds budget and matches it. Here's what they don't tell you: you're now a flight risk. Promotions quietly stop. You're the first name on the layoff list. The budget was always there. They just didn't think you'd leave. Has a counter-offer ever worked out for you long-term?

I’m seriously flirting with the idea of moving into RevOps or Enablement. I still love sales, but I’m far more energized by strategy, systems, and helping others perform than by prospecting or chasing late-stage deals. The biggest thing holding me back is fear. I don’t want to make a move I regret, but I also don’t want to ignore where my interests are clearly pulling me. Has anyone made this pivot successfully? What did you gain, and what did you miss?

Okay, I have decided to flip the script on my cover letter. I have decided to let the employer I am applying to what type of an employer I am looking for and or what I am expecting from my future employer. Basically, Stating upfront that I am older but highly qualified and going to work and be professional. And if that does not fit into there ideal candidates not to bother reaching out. I will try to update you how that goes.

      Salary Negotiations

I had a tough choice: stay after a counteroffer or take a new role with higher pay. It felt good to be valued, but I wondered why it took leaving to get recognized. For those who’ve been in this spot, did accepting (or declining) a counteroffer work out in the long run? I read one story that they didn’t take the counter offer because they were scared the employer was going to work them harder.

I just accepted a new job, but my current company gave me a counter-offer that matches the new salary. I'm still set on the new role, but the pay bump is gone. Has anyone successfully gone back to a new employer after accepting an offer to ask for more due to a counteroffer? Don't want to ruffle feathers, but I also don't want to leave money on the table! Any advice on how to approach this?
