My wife and I are not the best planners. We however do ok to save and have roughly 1.2 M in net worth between us (age 35 and plan to work till 60). We plan to save 100k every year before taxes and think that is more than enough for us to be financially stable. What I wanted advice on here is if it’s actually worth having an advisor? Most of my family and friends said no since their % based fee adds up over time. Anyone here who uses a planner/advisor who charges hourly?

Pls critique this cover letter: Having launched my career in venture capital, where my work centered on deal analysis and investor communications, I have sharpened my interests around one direction. Wealth management appeals to me for its breadth of discipline, the entrepreneurial upside it offers, and the opportunity to grow alongside the families and individuals at the heart of the practice. XYZ's record of growing to over $16 billion in assets under management while maintaining a 98% client..

Alright, question for the financially savey consultants out there. My friend has a small business and has been accumulating cash in a money market account (50k+ at this point). He wants to start investing and spoke to a financial advisor who would charge 1.4% each year. This seemed high to me. I mentioned just dollar costing into ETFs (.... which probably made little sense). Anybody here have a good resource for succinctly explaining concepts/ helping him make these choices?

I’m in my 40s and realizing I’ve never actually worked with a financial advisor. I’ve always DIY’d my investments But now that my portfolio is getting bigger, I’m starting to wonder if I’m missing something or leaving money on the table. Part of me thinks a professional could help optimize things, part of me worries it’s just an unnecessary expense. What convinced you to get an advisor (or not)? Would you do it again knowing what you know now?

Is there a specific type of financial advisor who is like a jack of all trades? For example, someone who could give me advice on my real estate portfolio, advice on creative tax incentives etc as well as general investing advice? Someone who could provide advice in areas that are less obvious like, tell me when it may be a good idea to sell or buy a certain assets or how to structure my LLC for more savings and protections? Or are these all separate specialties?

Hello! I have been in private wealth management since 2009 and formally an advisor on my own book for the last 9 years. I am currently working in the Private Bank and am considering a switch somewhere that I can build and own my book of business in a team oriented environment. I’m considering an opportunity with a large RIA but wondering if anyone has insight into Morgan Stanley Private Wealth? What is it like to be a financial advisor there?

Does anyone here use an investment advisor. I have a few questions 1) What investment firm? 2) How much fees? 3) Active or passively managed portfolio 4) Level of satisfaction with service on a scale of 1-5 5) Are portfolio returns directionally in line what they promised to be? 6) Are the returns worth it for the fees paid? Do you recommend using one? Yes/No/Maybe? Please feel free to share any other recommendations.

Looking for a CPA/financial advisor—just became a partner at my firm which means 2026 will be a K1 year for me instead of W2 and want to start that tax year out on the right foot so I can maximize any benefits that come with that while also not running into trouble down the road from improper planning. Who do you recommend in town? Everyone I’m seeing is for “high net worth” clients and that’s not quite my situation—yet.
