Alright, question for the financially savey consultants out there. My friend has a small business and has been accumulating cash in a money market account (50k+ at this point). He wants to start investing and spoke to a financial advisor who would charge 1.4% each year. This seemed high to me. I mentioned just dollar costing into ETFs (.... which probably made little sense). Anybody here have a good resource for succinctly explaining concepts/ helping him make these choices?

Has anyone used the Employee Assistance Programme for financial advice - if so are they any good? I'm struggling to sort out some tax issues (how to deal with one-off pension contributions, HMRC saying I owe more tax from the last FY and I don't understand why, etc.). If not the EAP, can anyone recommend a service to get basic help on financial matters without having to get a full-on financial advisor? Thanks!

I come with 15+ years of experience from Tier 1 consulting firms, Big4, and high-growth startups/boutiques.

Most of the lawyers I know invest in index funds, but just wondering if anyone considered investing with one of your clients (maybe PEs, Credit Funds, Banks etc.). Some of these funds performed very well and apparently did better than index funds.
