      Relationships

      Case Manager

This cute guy messaged me on Linkedin after requesting to connect with me a few days ago. It just so happens that the same day all of this happened, my boyfriend told me to get out of his face after I told him he was being impatient while I was being in the bathroom. Its not the first time he said that to me. To be honest, I really liked our convo. He was like a breath of fresh air, nice, & understanding when I told him I was in a relationship after he gave me his number.

In March, a LinkedIn connection I barely know messaged me - unemployed for 18 months and asked me to reach out to a friend of mine, Joe, because he couldn’t get an interview at my Joe’s company. I did, Joe hooked him up. Joe since left the company. On Friday, this guy posts on LinkedIn that he started there. I messaged and asked if it was from that interview. He said, “Yep, took forever.” That’s it. No thank you, no acknowledgment. I haven’t replied. I want to tell him he’s an AH. Am I wrong?

A couple of employees have brought to my notice that this one person in the office has an odor to him. It's been described so far as a mix of B.O. and earwax - I'm laughing, but I can see how this can be a very negative experience for people trying to focus at work. I've discussed this with leadership and will be chatting with him later today. How do you reckon I open up this conversation? I have my script in place, but looking for some ideas on how I can speak in the kindest possible way with him.

A scope co. called me for a job. Spoke w/HR 3 times before having video interview w/manger. Feedback was I interviewed well & moving on. After a wk of silence, i reached out to HR. He said "we spoke on the 15th, remember". He summarized the phantom call w/saying "we are filing the job internally". Since I didn't recall the call on the 15th, I looked at my call history; no call was rec'd. The last call was from a week prior recapping the interview went. Has anyone else experienced this scenario?

      Attorney

Had a conversation with opposing counsel and he talked about how he was looking to add an attorney to his firm. The talk progressed to me showing interest and I thought he did as well, and he asked me to send a resume. I sent it to him the very day he was leaving for a 3-week vacation. That was 3 weeks ago, and literally no response. Not even an acknowledgement of the email. I know he’s been working while on vacation, because he’s been working on our case together. Should I follow up?

I’ve noticed a pattern in meetings: the people who talk the most (whether their ideas are actually good or not) end up getting remembered and credited. Meanwhile, the folks who quietly do the heavy lifting often get overlooked. Part of me feels like I should play that game, but another part of me worries I’ll come off as fake if I start speaking just to be heard. Would you adapt your style or double down on letting the work speak for itself?

One Piece of “Virtual Interviewing” Advice When interviewing virtually, it is critical to capture a transcript of the call. A way to do this without investing into a fancy transcription software, is by opening a word doc, and prior to your interview hitting the “Dictate OR Transcribe” button within the word doc. Following the interview being transcribed, you can save the word doc and plug it into Chat GPT in order to generate a valuable thank you letter that references your transcript.

Yesterday, during a team call, Sam thought he was on mute and started ranting to his dog about how clueless our manager is. Thing is—he wasn’t muted. The whole team froze. Our manager just said, “Glad to know your dog’s well-informed.” Sam turned bright red, apologized, and the call moved on like nothing happened. Later, we found out the manager messaged him saying, “Next time, share the feedback directly. I don’t bite.” Honestly, it made all of us respect him more.

I had a call today where the customer made me repeat my greeting twice, and the moment she heard my voice, she asked to speak to someone else. Before I could respond, she said she’d call back and hung up after waiting 45 minutes. I almost brushed it off, but later saw on her account she had a history of being rude to agents. It made sense then, maybe she didn’t want to speak to someone with an accent like mine. It’s frustrating how some people judge so quickly.

Does anyone else feel like workplace communication through the chain of command is just an adult version of Telephone? Today, my VP made a group chat with my boss (regional director) and me to ask about a machine I manage. I answered, my boss said one thing, and that was it. Moments later, my boss privately messages me—relaying a note from the VP. The same VP who could’ve just said it in the group chat we were all just in. Make it make sense!!!
