      Job Hunting in Tech

Looking for new opportunities in UI/UX Design 🚀 With 3+ years of experience, I specialise in creating clean, modern, and user-centred designs for websites and mobile apps. I’ve worked on SaaS dashboards, landing pages, and product interfaces—focusing on both usability and visual impact. I also have hands-on experience in front-end development (HTML, Tailwind CSS, basic JavaScript), which helps me design with real-world implementation in mind. I need advice. I'm honestly pretty smart, and looking for aggressive career advancement. Here's the problem....I have a *lot* of experience (think >20yrs) in chip design. I have the most fun working on tough problems. My current job is kind of a 9-5'er in a very low cost area. I make the equiv (seriously) of about $400K/yr in Silicon Valley (i.e. my lower salary is equiv to...). I did this originally intentionally. Right now I no longer get raises/promotions because I'm topping out.

I’m a UI/UX designer with a background in economics and customer experience, currently exploring product systems that prioritize transparency and trust. My journey into design started with curiosity about how digital experiences influence decision-making — especially in emerging tech spaces. I’m particularly interested in building structured, user-centered systems that solve real problems rather than just look good. Looking forward to connecting and learning from other professionals here.

Design is about function optimization first and beauty second. At least that’s what I believe. But everywhere I look I see design frailty, design weakness, and design blindspots. I’m actually really good at this. I think it’s my superpower…whether I’m vacuuming, interacting on a website, using my electric toothbrush, driving my car, cleaning my refrigerator. I see product design weakness everywhere. How do I get into the product design seeing without any experience in product design?

      Career Advice for Students

      works at Liberty University

I am junior designer with a renovation company for about 5 months. I’ve hit a bit of a road block and has really made me reconsider the job. I feel that there’s a lot of pressure to get things done, but not a lot of help in how to execute as I am still learning. It’s lead me to feel very stressed and overwhelmed and has made me want to quite many times. I’m just at a crossroad on how long I should stay at the company in how it could affect a future job. Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

Hey! I’ve been working at the same company for four years, there’s been talks for 6 months on making me a senior but nothing is being actioned so I’m on the job hunt as I’m also fed up of remote work. In my current job I’ve only had a little bit of experience in print design and every post I’ve seen seems to want experience in it, I have taken LinkedIn courses but how do I best prepare myself to look more appealing to a potential job although I don’t have a lot of formal experience?

      Career Pivot

Hello everyone! I've kicked off my 6-8 month exit strategy from stone fabrication, where I've worked since Dec 2022. Left a great company for a new one hoping for growth, but it's a poor fit—lacking creativity and teamwork I need. I love the industry but want to pivot to my passion: architecture/design. In school (associate's in drafting), I excelled with Revit, Enscape, Solidworks, CAD/manufacturing. Progress: Updated resume, cover letter template, building digital portfolio. Advice welcome!

I have 21 yrs in design, 15 yrs in web, 8 years in UX and 4 as manger. I usually have reported to a non-designer. I get no feedback/guidance, told conflicting things (Explore AI, we’re not doing AI; we’re a data first company, we are never doing that despite the data). I decided to DO LESS. My boss said I do a good job. I’m confused, burnt out. The job market is terrible. I’ve applied to a few jobs but being burnt out, I’m not sure what I want to do. In this market what’s people’s advice?

I graduated fall of 2023. I got an internship after but I never found a full time design role. I'd like to make use of my degree at some point/get out of low end work so I'm going to overhaul my portfolio. I currently have a combination of illustration and product design/branding. Job listings seem to be asking for like 5 different things at this point though from print to UX to animation to photography. What should I focus on adding? Or do I have to do all of them?

Happy New Year, everyone! I’m pursuing a new career in interior design and am eager to gain hands-on experience through volunteer opportunities or internships. I’d love the chance to learn from professionals, contribute where I can, and see the design world from a new perspective. I would greatly appreciate any advice or recommendations especially from those already working in the industry. Thank you in advance for any guidance or insight you’re willing to share!
