Lately I’ve been thinking that the most valuable skill in healthcare isn’t clinical expertise anymore, it’s emotional endurance. The ability to absorb stress, grief, anger, and constant pressure without breaking seems more rewarded than actual skill or knowledge. That realization worries me. It feels like the system is built to test how much people can take rather than how well they can care. Does anyone else feel uneasy about what that says about where healthcare is headed?

How do you prioritize your health when the culture clearly doesn’t? My company says they care about employee wellness, but I haven’t had a real lunch break in weeks. I eat leftovers cold, standing up, between Zoom calls... once it was 3:45pm before I even realized I hadn’t had water all day. We have a Slack channel called #selfcare, but any actual attempt to take a breath is met with eye-rolls or last-minute meeting invites. I want to take better care of myself, but it feels impossible when I’m being praised for burnout and guilted for rest.

I've recently graduated with my AAS (health information technology) and passed the RHIT exam. I have no history of healthcare experience (mostly office work, customer service, and hotels). Does anyone have any helpful hints on how to enter the healthcare field for health information? I'd like to work overnight but I feel like my lack of experience will hinder my chances. I'm not finding many (any) overnight jobs, and I'm applying to all kinds of positions that are in the HIT world.

Whenever I look back over my long career, I think about why I went into healthcare. For me, it was because I loved chemistry and biology, and helping people. And that's the truth. I can't see myself doing anything else because, as I always say, if you don't have your health, you don't have anything. Why did you get into what you do? Was it because you really wanted to help people, or was it just because you didn't think of anything else?

My workplace just presented health insurance costs for employees for next year and they have gone way up and my employer is offering mainly catastrophic plans that are not realistic for most people. It’s truly insulting working in healthcare and getting terrible insurance. This wasn’t the case at my previous workplaces but I also know times have changed. Does anyone here working in this industry actually get good health benefits?

As the screen asks me to share my experience, I want to be honest with other healthcare professionals. For years, I put my own health off to avoid time away from work and high out-of-pocket costs. It felt reasonable at the time, but it caught up with me, and I’m paying for it medically now. The takeaway is simple: delaying your own care is tempting, but it often costs more in the long run. Have you done the same?

I’ve eaten the exact same $30 Seamless sushi order at my desk for the last four nights in a row, and my health is officially hitting a wall. I'm gaining the dreaded analyst fifteen, my skin hasn't seen natural sunlight in days, and my fridge at home contains nothing but a expired carton of almond milk and some hot sauce. Does anyone here actually manage to eat healthy?

I recently read about the growing trend of companies offering wellness benefits, like gym memberships and mental health days. It's fascinating how these perks are becoming part of the overall compensation package. But do such benefits actually compensate for lower salaries? Can a healthy work environment outweigh financial considerations? What’s your take?

I have a great offer on the table, but HR has made it clear that the salary is maxed out. My hesitation is that the benefits package is pretty weak. Medical is fine, but dental and vision cover almost nothing. Does anyone have experience asking for better coverage in this scenario, or are group health plans typically take-it-or-leave-it?
