I'm a first gen lawyer (first in my fam to graduate high school) and am clueless about personal finances. I'm investing in index funds for the first time. Curious which brokerage you all use? I'm thinking about opening a Schwab brokerage account and investor checking account. Better alternatives? Are there different types of index funds? I've saved 100K in a high yield savings account for a down payment for a home eventually but want to start investing now. I welcome any and all help. Thank you.

Do you ever feel like index funds are almost too safe? I’ve been dollar-cost averaging into VTI and a few total market ETFs for years, and it feels like the right move… but sometimes I wonder if I’m just being lazy by setting it and forgetting it. Part of me wants to pick a few sectors or individual stocks to try and outperform. But then I worry that’s more about ego than strategy. Is there a point where you should start branching out, or is trying to beat the market just an expensive distraction?

I interviewed for Graduate Finance Analyst role, After the final interview with Head of Finance, they re-checked logistics like salary expectations, start date, and commute time even though HR had already covered these in the screening call. They also said I’d hear back by Wednesday, but it’s now past that and I haven’t received an update. Is it normal for someone that senior to ask logistics at the final stage, and how common is it for companies to miss a stated decision timeline by a few days?

PwC Have any other new joiners to PWC (non-audit position) been able to keep concentrated/sector-specific index funds when one of the securities is restricted? I'm being asked to sell a sector-specific index fund whose restricted security is <20% of the holding. However, this security is also a sizeable portion of any S&P500 index fund; and the sector-specific fund weight is basically just 2x that of the S&P 500. For a new joiner, is there any path to escalation/approval of the index fund?

      Interview Tips

      Operations Manager

I’ve been through interview processes that felt endless. Last was six or seven rounds, a take-home project, then a panel that stretched past two hours. By the end, I was exhausted and questioning if the role was even worth it. A part of me wanted to ask if we could cut a round or skip the homework assignment, but I didn’t want to come across as uncommitted. It made me wonder if candidates ever have any leverage in shaping the process. Do you think it’s possible to negotiate interview logistics?

So I applied for Logistics Planning Analyst position. I have a mechanical background in the field and shop of servicing heavy equipment and diesel trucks. Could there be potential to transition into that position, even though I don’t have a degree of some sort for that type of position. Cause all I have is my mechanical experience, telematics and customer communication to show for. I definitely am ready to transition into an office role and adding the experience that I have.

Hi! Total noob question but could use help optimizing my trad brokerage mix: 210K in VOO 25K in VTI 35K in VTSAX 3K in QTUM *EF, 401K etc fully funded... Realize this isn't the most strategic allocation, and want to focus on simple low fee investments. To that end, grateful for thoughts: 1) What's an ideal mix? 2) How to do w/o creating taxable event? (heard you may able to transfer within certain Vanguard funds) 3) Anything else to focus on? Huge TIA!

      Career Pivot

      Nathan Brown
      6mo

Hi All, I'm looking for advice on how I would pivot from logistics/warehousing (office based) to a creative job (Workshop, home based). I have been in logistics for 10 years, with a short break (10 months) as a pub chef. I have a passion for creativity and want to try to pursue it as a long-term career. I am based in North Hertfordshire. Any tips, resources or contacts appreciated—happy to chat and learn from others who’ve made a similar switch. Thanks in advance!
