I have a question. I have a good NW. I work someplace with "unlimited PTO" and I really need a 2yr vacation/sabbatical. 2yrs is within the limits of "unlimited" right? My plan? I'm thinking I want to spend a couple months getting a suntan on the beaches of Panama and Costa Rica. Then I want to improve my German by living in Munich for about a year. Then maybe move to Spain to write my memoirs, watch the running of the bulls and smoke good cigars.

Hot take: Unlimited PTO is the greatest psychological scam ever pulled on the tech industry. I switched from a company with 25 fixed days to an unlimited, and I’ve taken exactly four days off in ten months because the peer pressure is suffocating. Everyone is terrified of being the person who takes too much, so we all just end up working until we’re burnt to a crisp. Has anyone actually found a company where unlimited isn't just code for zero?

So I have been a software engineer here for 5 years. We decided to upgrade our LIMS system to a new LIMS, which I built, with my team, over two years time. It's working wonderfully. Meantime new mgmt arrived. They want to implement a different LIMS and I will not be coding it. In fact, while they are promoting me and promising to keep me on no matter what, they can't really tell me exactly what I'll be doing. Pay is very good btw. I just feel betrayed. Should I be looking around?

With the pay that you are currently receiving are you able to still make your bills, and mortgage/rent with the constant rising of prices of everything? Do you feel like your drowning with no way up and having to use those credit card just to survive eight now? I am seeing a lot of people, in a financial crisis, trying to survive the constant rising cost of living. For many the pay check is not going up but down. Selling stuff isn’t enough. What suggestions do we have for each other?

Need some feedback on how you handle accounts that are placed on hold due to over credit limit. Keep in mind that most of these accounts are long term accounts that will be release . We started a process where any accounts that go over their credit limit are placed on hold until The AR mgr releases the account. According to the controller the collectors are not able to release these from hold as it’s a segregation of duty. Do you have any suggestions ? Managing this solely is not productive

I try to negotiate just about everything to save a few bucks but recently I feel lke I went over the top. I had medical debt and called to try and settle by offering a discounted cash offer. I started the conversation by saying I couldn't afford to pay and would very likely default on the debt (not true I make over $200k a year and live within my means). When the person over the phone began offering payment plans instead and saying they could not settle (continued)
