      Job Hunting in Tech

      Senior IC Design Engineer
      7mo

My company has forced RTO and I’m struggling to meet the in-office time requirement. I’m looking to move to a new job, and would like to try something new in my next position. I’m torn between moving from circuit design into hardware verification or moving into a software dev role. Hardware verification is closer to my current skill set, so I might find a job easier, but software seems to be where all the remote jobs are. What should I do given that remote work is my priority?

Happy Monday Glassdoor-ians! I am super bummed today. I was supposed to be traveling for work this week but my team proactively cancelled due to the shut down because they did not want flights impacted by the FAA issues. Well, now flights have returned to normal and we aren't rescheduling any time soon. Looking for recommendations for places to take my laptop for a change of scenery. I live in a major city so any location type is on the table!

During my evening instagram scroll I saw that Lenovo booked Alesso for their corporate event. I am so jealous that is so fun. My company doesn’t do anything fun like that. Does yours? Who’s the coolest artist or person you were able to meet for work? For reference, here’s the video. I’ll be listening to 2010s EDM for the rest of the night now!: https://www.instagram.com/reel/DTRxsNZAfUW/?igsh=aTFrZWs0czJnNmRl

Has anyone working remote put their two weeks in and had the company tell you that you can either pay to ship the laptop back or to drive it back into the office (2 hour drive) and they won’t pay for miles? My company just said I can either ship and pay or drive it back to the office, and I’ve always been remote, never worked in the office in the last 3 years.

Any quirks or concerns with Orrick’s benefits or IT? What about the in-office experience - any cities better than others? I’m looking at a lateral move and want to avoid the overly-limited formulary and nearly unusable Dell laptops from a prior firm.

So, uh, intel on Ashurst anyone, esp. their US offices? Would love some intel on policies on reduced FTE (and comp and bonuses for reduced FTEs), any unstated hours expectations, comp structure, longevity for non-partnership track roles, WLB, etc. 😬

If you are off today, I hope you’re taking the day to relax and stay away from work. Please get some relaxing in, sit by the pool, do all you can to avoid checking email and firing up the laptop. You deserve a day.

My Mom got taken to the ER this morning. Spent all day with her. Obviously, brought the laptop and somehow, still billed 9.8 hours. What even is this messed up life we live?! (She's stable and will be discharged shortly).

Does anyone have intel on actual salaries or bonuses at Altshuler Berzon? Their website says salaries start at 102K but that seems ludicrously low for a relatively prestigious boutique given the cost of living in SF.
