Does anyone actually want to connect on Linkedin? The whole purpose of that platform is to network right? I'm in the process of applying for jobs, and to better help my chances, I've been trying to network with people within similar roles or the hiring team within the company, hoping to gain an edge but not a single person has been interested in replying. I'm wondering if I'm overstepping a boundary, or am I 1 of 100 with the same strategy?

Can I get advice on how to network? I’m a huge introvert and building professional relationships has been a struggle. I do the linkedin connections request and never speak to them again. How do I approach it? Like not ideals or advice. Hold my hand and tell me what I need to do. I’m so scared. I feel everything is a transaction. Or they know I’m just using them. And i dont have friends and dont maintain old relationships. I have nothing to offer. I dont have value. But i need to learn 🙏

How do you navigate connecting with interviewers on LinkedIn? Is it weird to request a connection from hiring managers/vice presidents/anyone else involved in the hiring process if you've already had an email back and forth or a virtual interview of some kind? Or even post-interview, regardless of whether or not you made it to the next round? Also: hiring managers, would you accept an invitation to connect with an applicant you've spoken to once, even if they were rejected? Why or why not?

I have noticed LinkedIn feels increasingly performative, filled with polished motivational posts that rarely translate into real opportunities. As someone actively navigating job hunting, I sometimes feel like I am speaking into the void while scrolling through recycled optimism. I value genuine connections, but networking without momentum can feel hollow when I am still trying to regain my footing. Is there a more effective way to use LinkedIn that actually leads to meaningful work?

Based on this scenario, do I try to connect with the hiring manager directly via LinkedIn? I’ll keep the names anonymous but know these are 2 diff companies. The recruiting company reached out to me via LinkedIn Inmail, I passed that initial call, then had a great virtual interview with the hiring manager of the company that’s hiring. Recruiter said ‘we’ve hit a snag’ and those roles are on hold, but the hiring manager just posted on LinkedIn that they are hiring for marketing automation roles.

I'm stumped. I applied for a job 3 weeks ago, and HR sent me a connect request. But I haven't heard a word since. Is this a new way for companies to collect potential candidates for the future? I'm baffled by it. I sent a message thanking them for the request and mentioned how excited I am to learn more about the role. No response. WTH? The job is still listed on their website, along with other roles that have been open for months. I was ready to move forward and got silence. 😩 Dang!

Networking isn't just about LinkedIn, it's about gaining actionable intel. Last year, a former colleague told me their company had a $180k base for a role similar to mine; $40k above my cap. That info gave me the leverage to demand a market rate adjustment during my review, and I got it. Your network is a realtime map of what you're actually worth. Stop just connecting and start trading data with people you trust. Who in your circle is brave enough to talk real numbers with you?

Does anyone accept LinkedIn connection request from strangers these days? It seems like 90% of the time, they’re peddling software, or they are a self proclaimed expert in “strategy”, “optimization”, “leveraging”, etc. The other 10% of the time, it’s a recruiter that has an “interesting opportunity that I would be a good fit for”. Sometimes I just want to ask them why they can’t seem to find candidates from the 100’s of people actively seeking work?

Hi I'm currently wrapping up my first year MBA internship at a non target school and would like to network with MBB for full time positions before the application deadline in September. I would like to network with offices from the state I'm in (Georgia) and with the middle east as I'm from the MENA region. What is the way to approach this? What is the goal of networking apart from getting a referral? Are there any resources on how to network from a non target?
