Does anyone else feel like “chef-driven” menus are just code for “we’re going to change everything every week and never train you properly”? I’ve worked in a few places like this now, and it’s always the same story: new dish drops Friday, no tasting, no walkthrough, and we’re left scrambling. I love creativity, but I’m tired of being set up to fail in the name of innovation. Last weekend we ran out of a new special by 7pm because no one told prep. How do you balance flexibility with consistency in places like this?

Hi all, I have been doing some small jobs for a drinks brand. They’ve asked me to create a new flavor cue illustration to extend one of their ranges. I’m pretty confident I can replicate the look and feel well enough for the range to feel consistent (Pen and watercolour). The client believe they hold the usage rights through the original agency, and they’ve approved me to go ahead. Want to be respectful to the illustrator but realistic about the nature of commercial illustration. Thanks!

I write this because it comes up often in one form or another. If you’re young and figuring things out, learn some basics and enjoy a lifetime of great food. Olive oil, garlic, olives, capers, cherry tomatoes, maybe some red paper, mash it all up. Better to use spaghetti for this but I only had rigatoni. Add some water from the pasta and pecorino cheese. You have this great dish that costs almost nothing and tastes better than 90% of what you get in a restaurant

I took on a side project to design a simple landing page for $2k, and the client has officially turned it into a full brand identity overhaul. They’re texting me at 11 PM on Saturdays asking for just one quick tweak to the logo icon and hinting at future equity instead of actual milestone payments. I’m about to fire them, but I really need the money to pay off some unexpected car repairs this month. How would you approach this?

Here's a list of things not to count on: annual salary increases, bonuses, promotions, or the economy. If you are fiscally responsible and a good planner, you can save up for that once-in-a-lifetime trip, house purchase or new car without overextending. If an increase does happen, do you splurge in the short term (fancy dinner, outfit or new gadget) or add the extra funds to your special event savings?

How often do you refresh your look in terms of wardrobe? Being in sales, I try my best to always look super presentable, but I feel like I could be overdoing it. My problem is that my older pieces just feel out of sync with how I want to present myself in the moment, so I cave in and buy new stuff. I need to find a middle ground and set boundaries on how often I shop for outfits. Share how you do it!

Do you think restaurants should have a cap on how many modifiers a guest can add? I had someone basically redesign an entire menu item with 14 different mods... extra this, no that, substitute here, sauce on the side, gluten-free, dairy-free, but make it crispy. The ticket was so long the expo grabbed it just to laugh. At a certain point it stops being hospitality and starts being chaos.

Ladies (or gents, or anything in between), help me rebuild my work wardrobe! Think director level, but I want to be comfortable, casual, and chic. I need clothes to meet a Texas climate, plus a NE one (remote on camera in the NE with travel to TX). I need inspiration. I’ve been at D for a long time but looking to leave soon and need to bring some energy to my wardrobe.

I’m in the final stages with a Series C startup and they’ve met my OTE requirements, but I’m walking away from a $30k bonus at my current spot if I leave now. I want to ask for a sign-on bonus to bridge the gap. The recruiter hasn't mentioned sign-ons at all during the process. How do you guys usually frame the make-whole conversation without sounding like a diva?
