Am I going to be worked to the bone if I join a group where I’d be the only associate supporting partners and counsels? It’s a subgroup of a corporate practice that focuses on a specialized area with great exit options and operates as a support group for other transactional and/or lit groups (like tax or IP). It’s a newly created position meaning there aren’t any previous associates that I can ask about their experience. I really like type of work the team does but worried about being miserable.

Anyone out there at a firm with a well-supported tax group? I’m at an AM40 and am basically the sole associate for a very small group of hoarding partners, which has resulted in feast or famine for me and I feel like I’m about to lose my mind. I can’t specialize (because if I do, I lose a chunk of work) and I feel like I’m on an island. I think I’m ready for something better, and would move to seize that opportunity, but I don’t have any ideas. 4th year with LLM if helpful.

How do I know when my group is toxic/when is it time to lateral? I am so burnt out after multiple 2400 years and don’t feel like my group cares at all they’re constantly expecting more from me. Making below market and have the opportunity to make market. At one point I was told I could make partner by my group head but I’m not so sure I want it if this is the cost. I wake up every day hating my job. 4th year.

Anyone have insight into the Cleary funds group? Have heard from outsiders that it's a solid group, but haven't really seen any insiders posting about the group. It also seems like a really small group (their website lists like 20 partners, 5 counsels and 12 associates in the NY office).

What are some human resource groups apart from this one that you're a part of? I'm trying to be part of as many communities as I can so I can be updated with more conversations in the HR space. I recently got promoted and I want to do my best to keep improving and stay updated about the profession.

Has anyone switched practice groups later in your career (as a mid/senior associate)? Or know people who did? What has your/their experience been like? I’m currently a 5th year restructuring associate feeling a bit pigeonholed but also worried that I’m too expensive to train.

Does anyone have experience with the CAAS group at Carr, Riggs, & Ingram? Just curious to hear how their group is. Obviously it can vary by office which I’m aware of. Just curious to hear more about it Carr Riggs & Ingram
