Anyone out there at a firm with a well-supported tax group? I’m at an AM40 and am basically the sole associate for a very small group of hoarding partners, which has resulted in feast or famine for me and I feel like I’m about to lose my mind. I can’t specialize (because if I do, I lose a chunk of work) and I feel like I’m on an island. I think I’m ready for something better, and would move to seize that opportunity, but I don’t have any ideas. 4th year with LLM if helpful.

If a small specialized lit group gets poached by another firm, is it bad to join their group at the already-established firm they went to? They are building it out at the established firm and looking for associates at other firms for now, but not sure if folks have experience with that. Seems like a good way to pivot into a specialty, but worry about the risk too.

I’m considering a role that pays less, but includes profit sharing based on team performance. On paper, it’s a great culture fit and the team’s had a strong track record the past two years. But I’ve never had comp tied to group outcomes before, and part of me wonders if it’s just a way to justify lower base. Would you trust this bonus structure?

EY fishes- anyone recently did an NIW petition by themselves and requested recommendation letters from PPED? Do those letters need to go through any internal approval processes? Or could PPMD simply sign the letter for me without company letterhead in their personal capacity?

Do non equity partners have to have their own clients? Is the only difference between NEP and EP that NEPs are paid a salary and don’t have typical partner rights (e.g., voting power)? Why do some firms make people NEP instead of EP? How do they choose?
