      Job Hunting in Tech

      Software Engineer
      7mo

Hey folks 👋 Need some help deciding between two offers for a Senior Frontend Engineer role with similar total compensation but with different component. - Neo4j - higher base, solid team, seems stable and well-balanced. (no RSUs) - The Trade Desk - lower base, but comes with RSUs and lots of growth potential. Basically: stability vs upside. If you were in my shoes, which way would you lean? Anyone here worked at either company, how’s the culture, growth path, and work-life balance?

Should I go back to big 4? Left B4 when qualified and jump into a local practice, but it merged with big 10 and now we have more client but not enough resources and training. I’m a very checklist type of person and need structured handbook to know what to do, small companies seem to be messy with clients don’t even have a trial balance (we need to figure it out from bank transactions ourselves). Should I go back to bigger companies with more structures? But I can’t survive another busy season

Has anyone made the move to Big 4 as a manager from a mid tier firm (Crowe, BDO, GT, RSM, Baker Tilly)? If so, how was your experience? What are the pros and cons? I have an EY interview coming up and I’m interested if outside managers can adapt to Big 4 and what the risk of pending Big 4 layoffs could mean for me. Please include the firm you left and the firm you went to!

Anyone just leave Big 4 and realize, “Wow that place was really dysfunctional and messed up…” I switched to another boutique consulting firm with real technical consultants, and the management and culture is loads better. I know it’s super obvious, but when you’re in it, you don’t realize how terrible some parts of the job are.

Have you ever come to the realization that you're not meant for the Big 4? I was fired after a year and a half at PwC, then I moved to Deloitte. I've really been struggling to keep up and was put on a PIP. I'm expecting to lose my job any day now.

So i retired from law enforcement and joined Neogov. I agree with the core values of the company AND they actually live them. Team environment, my boss (Jessica) was straight forward and didn't sugar coat the position. Real expectations and training to meet those expectations.

A few offers to consider. Need some help on weighting perspectives: other Big 4s as a Managing Director or MBB / Tier 2 strategy Boutique as a Principal? Of course, the compensation is higher as a Managing Director (it’s in the offers, so that’s a goven fact)

Are you a Big4 consultant contemplating going on your own? I did it 2 years ago and would never go back and change it. Happy to give you a peak into reality and help avoid making costly mistakes. Feel free to DM. I can be your sounding board.
