      Salary Negotiations

      Operations Supervisor
      10mo

I took this role in October 2024 with a promise of a pay rise based on meeting two conditions by Feb 2025, which I easily met. When I reminded my manager for pay discussions in March 2025, she added another 3 conditions to my pay rise and gave me a deadline for July 2025. I have met these conditions as well now but the manager has come back saying that the pay was conditional and not confirmed. I feel like I should push back, but not sure if that will be the right move. Any advise from Pandits.

I began my career working in Nuclear Power, designing tooling/equipment for refueling outages. I currently work in defense, designing directed energy weapons systems. This is a field that has the possibility of growing exponentially over the next 20 years. I might have an opportunity to go back into nuclear with my original employer's biggest competitor for substantially better pay/benefits + 100% remote. Would have to work in the field 2-3 months/year. Any thoughts/recommendations?

I spent the entire year pushing hard for a KPI bonus my boss promised back in January, only to find out in October that the company never created the KPIs in the first place. It honestly felt shocking, because I built my expectations around a payout that never actually existed. It is strange how some workplaces make commitments that shape your effort but do not follow through on the systems. Has anyone else worked somewhere that made big promises only to backtrack when it mattered most?

Got promoted from Senior to Lead last month. Title updated in the system immediately. Salary? Still at $78k with a "we'll revisit at mid-year review" promise. I've seen this play out before - the title comes fast, the money comes slow (or never). Meanwhile I'm already doing Lead-level work at Senior pay. Do you push back immediately or give them the 6 months? Has anyone successfully accelerated a promised comp adjustment? What's the move here?

Truly love Gen Z folks for their unapologetic honesty. The senior manager texted on the group Slack chat on Friday evening, "Have a great weekend. See you all refreshed and ready for the next week", and one of our newest hires replied, "Guess we'll wait till next week for the WLB that was promised". It's been silent since then, but I'm kind of excited for Monday to see where it goes :D

I just got a surprise promotion with a 20% raise, which is way more than the 10-15% I was planning to ask for next year. I've been working above my level for months and was prepping to negotiate, but my boss beat me to it. Everyone says always negotiate, but I'm honestly thrilled with this. Should I still try to push for more or just accept something that already exceeded my hopes?

Every time a recruiter asks, “What are your salary expectations?” I freeze. If I shoot too high, I worry they’ll ghost. If I go too low, I might be stuck under-earning. Do you anchor high? Give a range? Say “negotiable” and hope for the best? I feel like no matter what I say, I’m either leaving money on the table or pricing myself out. What’s actually worked for you in this situation?

      FIRE Financial Independence Retire Early

      Manager
      8mo

My company announced this month that they are getting rid of the pension. They are freezing it, and will not provide any adjustments to it for inflation. I had done projections 2 months ago, and was on track to get $4000 a month when I retire in 20 years. Now I will only get $500 a month. I'm so sad, but no one offers pensions anymore so the employer has the power here.

I recently got a new company offer with a higher salary, but my manager asked me to stay, promising a better increment next financial year. Honestly, it’s a confusing situation — should I trust the promise or move for immediate growth? What would you do if you were in my place? Sometimes loyalty and career growth don’t go together

      Systems Engineer

Hello out there, what is a realistic salary expectation for a Computer Hardware Engineer (basically systems engineer) working at General Atomics in Poway San Diego? They are advertising 110-189k. I currently make about 127k where I currently work as Systems Engineer in San Diego. Any insight on this would be appreciated.
