Among the lengthy laundry list of requirements for an open role, if there’s specific programs other than typical Adobe creative suite & Microsoft ones, for an art director, and you don’t know Figma or Midjourney for example… do you apply? If you get an interview and that comes up, do you fib, fake it? It’s frustrating to be expected to be a master of everything, when reality of agency life you may nit be touching those programs frequently. Advice please 🥺

I'm trying to find a permanent role. Is Glassdoor, LI, etc. your first sources for open jobs? I've read that employers typically post openings on their company sites first before they end up on Glassdoor. If true, do I need to go to every career page of every company I'm interested in each day just to be one of the first to apply (and more likely get noticed)? Note: I'm subscribed to job RSS feeds for companies that offer them, but not all do.

What's your messaging style? You have probably seen the top managers typing only with their index fingers, all lower case, few punctuation and conveying information with a handful of words responding to someone sending a long reasoning elaborated in lawyer style text. I notice also differences between Developers and non Devs, seniority, culture e.g. Brits Vs Americans, etc. How do you message and what you prefer?

I’m starting to see people on TikTok suggesting that we should add invisible keywords in white text to our resumes to beat the ATS. It feels dishonest, but at this point, I’m desperate enough to try anything to get a human to actually look at my experience. If the system is rigged, why should we play by the rules? Have any of you actually tried the white text trick, and did it work?

How do you feel about being open with coworkers about salary? I used to feel kind of uncomfortable about it, to be honest. But the few honest conversations I’ve had actually helped me understand my worth and advocate for myself. I’ve also seen how it can get awkward if it turns into comparison. For me, it’s been helpful overall as long as it comes from a place of trust, not competition. Curious how others see it.

How many of your work places have a “no texting” policy? Mine has implemented this recently because one person ruined it for everyone, of course. But as a manager to a lot of gen zers, they don’t/wont read their email and refuse to answer phone calls (I get not answering the phone, especially if you don’t want to be asked to work). Continued below with my actual question.
